It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jeanette Eagles on October 18, 2024. Born on August 20, 1934, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Jeanette lived a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.
Jeanette married her childhood sweetheart, William Thomas Eagles, almost 69 years ago and together they built a beautiful family and life. She was the devoted mother of Jean Sabourin (Guy), Janice Aberdeen (Les), Carolann Wilson, Michael Eagles (Linda), and Bill Eagles (Ute). Her legacy of love and laughter continues through her grandchildren: Ellie, Mark (Brittni), Greg (Leah), Derek, Alison, Issiah, Ryan (Stephanie), Chantal, and Brandon, all of whom she adored deeply. Her love also extended to her cherished great-grandchildren: Elliot (Greg and Leah), Hayden, MaKenzie, Kai (Alison), Isabella, Sophia, and Tyler (Ryan and Stephanie).
Jeanette and William’s love story began when they were just 11 years old, meeting on her doorstep. From that moment, William knew she was the one he would marry, and so began a lifelong romance. After moving to Toronto, they spent weekends at the theater, followed by dancing into the night. Whether it was the 2-step or the twist, they loved dancing together and brought that same rhythm into every part of their lives.
Summers were spent on the road, with their children in tow, traveling from Southern Ontario to Nova Scotia in their family trailer. These trips were a highlight of the year, filled with adventure, laughter, and the bonds of family.
A passionate reader, Jeanette could always be found with a mystery novel in hand, often being the first to dive into the latest James Patterson or David Baldacci thriller. Books brought her great joy and were a reflection of her curious and thoughtful nature.
Jeanette and William were also active in their faith, attending church every Sunday as dedicated members of their congregation. Their devotion to each other and to their community was a central part of their lives, offering a model of steadfast love and commitment to all who knew them.
Jeanette will be remembered for her warmth, her love of family, and her passion for life’s simple pleasures. She leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished memories, and an example of a life well-lived. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will take place on Monday, October 28th from 1PM - 2PM at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home followed by service in the Chapel from 2PM-3PM and a reception on the lower level from 3PM - 5PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
