It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful and kind Mary Pelisek on Saturday, December 4, 2010. She died at the hospital surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 50 years, Joe. She was the beloved mother to Mark (Karen), Amanda and Christine. Her two grandchildren Shannon and Rachael and her brother Gary Anderson will lovingly miss her. Predeceased by her parents Bessie and Archie Anderson, brother Ronnie Anderson and sister Betty Bishop. Born in Gananoque, Mary moved to Ottawa and became a Staff Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps. It was through the military where she met Joe, the love of her life. Mary was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the head coach for the Montgomery Curling Club. She was a true lady and treated family and friends with kindness and respect. She lit up the lives of all those she touched. As an extremely devoted mother to her children, she leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, courage, pride, and unselfishness. A woman of integrity, honour and humour, she received great pleasure in knitting, chocolates, cottage life in Luskville, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the British Monarchy (she was proud to say she met Queen Elizabeth!), visiting her daughters in Los Angeles, watching Judge Judy and Law & Order, reading the “junk” papers, spending time with her grandchildren, and taking long leisurely breakfasts. Visitation at McEvoy-Shields funeral home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion), on Friday, December 10 from 10-11 a.m. with the memorial service to follow in the chapel at 11 a.m. In memoriam donations to the Salvation Army are greatly appreciated. Online guest book at www.mcevoy-shields.com.
