From the first time I met her over 40 years ago, Mary inspired me with her outgoing personality and her light-hearted sense of fun. She was a beautiful person and will be deeply missed by so many who loved her. Our sincerest sympathies to all of you at this sad time.

Sending deepest condolences and fondest memories of Mary, whom I knew as a friend. We met Mary in Ottawa in 1985 when our 3 sons were young. With no family of our own there, when we needed a babysitter for an overnight getaway, Mary was the (retired) person we found to entrust our boys' care to. We were richly rewarded with over 30 years of friendship and laughs with a remarkable woman whose life was truly an inspiration. When we moved to Victoria in 1988, Mary told us to look up her daughters, Flo and Sam. We did and the fun continues to this day. Mary loved to keep in touch with phone calls, never letters or cards. Her visits to the west coast were treasured and frequent events, often with her 'new' husband Joe Quinn. Her stories of growing up (poor) in Ottawa, falling in love, raising her family, working hard, upgrading her education to get a new career (in electrical technology) followed by widowhood, single life, re-marriage, new travel experiences, then re-widowhood, Mary's journey was deep and rich and authentic. She had many, many gifts. She could relate to any person, anywhere, anytime, of any age or position. Young, old, rich, poor, powerful or not, all got the same friendly, funny Mary. Working in one of the premium restaurants of the Chateau Laurier Hotel in Ottawa gave Mary access to many people, including politicians, senators and government officials. I can just imagine how much they must have looked forward to seeing Mary at work. If they wanted to gauge an idea for the Canadian public, they need look no further than Mary to get a clear, fast opinion on matters of the day. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have known (and loved) Mary Patafie Connolly Quinn.

My memories of aunt Mary will always be fond ones that make me laugh not cry because that is who she was   My fondest times a a child were with her and auntie nanda and auntie Lena.
