Died on July 22, 2010. Norma was the daughter of Al McCoy and Lola Foran. She was predeceased by her parents and twin sisters Joan (Stu Riopelle) and Helen (Ed Hennessy). Greatly missed by her nieces Kathy Hennessy and Anne Brown, nephews Tom Hennessy (Teresa de Jong) and Doug Riopelle (Linda Benham), grand nieces and nephew Meghan and Erin Brown, Scott and Shelly Hennessy, Christine and Stephanie Riopelle, as well as the Sisters of the Congregation. Norma shone as an educator and leader, teaching in Ottawa, Toronto, Kingston and Brockville. She was a consultant for faith education in Kingston and Peterborough, engaging youth in innovative and expansive approaches to LIFE. Norma was creatively involved in many aspects of social justice, human rights and peace movements. In her retirement she continued to embrace vigorously an interest in ecology and cosmology. Norma was a quiet activist, always aware of those in need. In 2003 she initiated a project providing access to clean water for the people in Kumbo, Cameroon. Friends are invited to gather at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) on Sunday, July 25 from 2-4 and 6-9p.m. At 7:30 p.m. we will include a sharing of memories. A Celebration of Life Liturgy will take place on Monday, July 26 at St. Margaret Mary Church (7 Fairbairn Ave. Ottawa) at 11 a.m. In lieu of Masses and/or flowers, Norma would appreciate donations to the O.K.
