My dear Norma. I only heard of her death today. She was "one of a kind" woman.
Norma and I lived and worked together in Peterborough. She was a kind and generous woman who embraced all humanity. She will be greatly missed.

To kathy and family deepest sympathy on the death of your aunt Norma. We had great fun in Shanagolden Ireland when yourself and Norma visited us. Especially when young Pa thought that nuns did not swear Norma and Marianne got a great laugh from this. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. My recollections of Norna are very distant. As a young girl she lived on Cambridge Street and had the task of babysitting me when my parents wanted a night out.
My next encounter with her was at Campanile where she was principal. That`s when she reminded me of our Cambridge days. She was a very warm and caring person who lived a full life.

To the family of Norma, and to all the sisters, I am deeply sorry that you have lost such a precious person in your lives. My experience with Norma was through the OK Clean Water Project, and she was such a strong, inspiring and well-organized leader in that project. I was always amazed at the fund-raising efforts, and the great success they acheived. Norma's spirit and loving smile will remain with me.

Farewell our beloved Sister Norma and the initiator for OK Clean Water Project Foundation. It was exactly 10. 20 am Cameroon time on the 22nd of July, 2010 that, the Workshop participants for the training of the Water management Caretakers for village water supply schemes were praying for you so that, God should relief you from the pains as regards your illness. They were also thanking you for initiating the Foundation, OK Clean Water Project in Kumbo-Cameroon.

 

 Sr. Catherine Molloy, CND. (OK clean water coordinator in Cameroon) left the workshop premises earlier than usual in other workshops. It was about 5.30 pm on that same day that, Sr. Catherine called and informs me about the death of Sr. Norma. 

 

God has call you, but we know and believe that you are still with us for there will never be a day, we shall not think of you or call your name.

 

Twenty-five Villages and some homes in Kumbo are enjoying pipe borne water due to your effort. So many people would have died before you, but you have served their lives by providing them with Clean Water. 

 

Approximately 45,000 people are served with portable clean water in Kumbo-Cameroon because of your Foundation.

 

Sr. Norma, you have left behind thousands and thousands of people to mourn for you in Kumbo-Cameroon. Villages where OK clean water project has assisted with pipe borne water says farewell to you and that, they will keep on praying for you so that God should keep you in the right place in Heaven.

 

The OK clean water project Committee members in Ottawa, Canada should accept our felt condolence as regards the death of OK Foundation member, Sr. Norma. The family members should also accept our sympathy.

 

We in Kumbo-Cameroon know very well that, your successor and the Committee in Ottawa, Canada will continue with OK activities from where you ended.

 

 We say farewell once more to you our beloved Sr. Norma. Prepare a place for us, for we shall come one day and be with you in Heaven.

 

It is not possible for some of us to witness your burial but, we shall respect the day of burial.

Dear Family and Friends of Norma,
Though halfway around the world geographically, I am with you in prayer and spirit as we grieve Norma’s leaving us while at the same time celebrating and giving thanks for her presence in our lives.
A coincidence? I don’t think so; rather, I believe it was yet another gift of Norma to us in Kumbo. Just about the time Norma was dying forty village water system caretakers gathered for a two day training  session – given the five hour time difference.  We began with prayer for Norma – a prayer for her peace and in gratitude for all she did for the water project.  At the end of the two days as the participants accepted their certificate of participation , each one committed him/herself to the collaborative work of the OK Clean Water Project.  We will honor her by carrying the project forward.
It has been my privilege to work with Norma for eight years on the OK project.  I have been gifted by Norma.  I am grateful.
I understand Norma died about dawn and I am comforted by the words of the poet, Tagore, “Death is not extinguishing the light; it is putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.”
Know I am with you in spirit and count on your prayer for all of us who were touched by her great spirit.

Although I did not know Norma well, she has inspired me from the time I became a CND. Her love of life and of those whose quality of life was diminished for one reason or another always touched my heart. It touched a desire in me to live like that.  Because of distance, her death seems a bit unreal for me at the moment. However, I do want to send blessings of hope, peace and joy to her family and to the CND Sisters of Ottawa who will miss her deeply.

First of all, my sincerest sympathies to Anne, Kathy, Tom, Doug and family.  I know how much Norma meant to each of you and how much you will miss the passing of the generation.
Norma, you were the most enigmatic, energetic and electric personality I have ever met.  When they discovered the word "charismatic" your picture was discovered along side of it.
Among the most significant and memorable highlights of my life includes you at Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving dinners (and yes even Boxing Day at Joan's) where I discovered it was best to agree with you rather than defend all men, all government or all business.  Above all, you made me think.

It was my great pleasure to meet Sr. McCoy at the Notre Dame High School reunion in 1994.  Since we wanted the mass for the reunion to be for the women and by the women of Notre Dame, we asked Sr. Norma to give the Homily.  Women could not give the homily, but she did anyway.  We just moved it and called it something else.  She made sure that we all knew it, too.  She was always a teacher.
She introduced me to the OK Clean Water Project and although my involvement was minimal, I always think of her when wearing the earrings, made by women in Cameroon, my daughter bought for me at one of the fundraisers.  I'm am a better person for knowing her.

Norma was an open, caring and empathetic woman, accepting people where they where in their lives without judgement.  For years she was 'the hub' of our little world.  We planned, celebrated, discussed, debated and laughed with Norma.  And when we hurt, she was always there for us.  When my daughter was born, there was no doubt that Norma would be her god-mother.   I miss her and Allegra misses her.   The world feels a little dimmer now that she's gone.

We will truly miss our wonderful friend Norma.  May she now rest peacefully in god's most loving arms.

Norma was such a vibrant and loving woman who enjoyed life to the fullest.  In this photo, taken only last July in Fredericton, we see Norma joining her sisters in the laughter and celebration.
