I am sorry to just today have learned of Ray's passing. Thank you for posting the Eulogy - it certainly captured that parts of Ray I knew. We played golf together and we talked about the Chateau and the City. It was clear that even with many strokes of handicap advantage I was never going to be allowed to beat Ray at golf. He was that competitive. But I enjoyed the side chatter a little bit in the same way you enjoyed the father. Thank you for sharing.

Hi, here is Ray's eulogy I wanted to do hopefully it fits.

How ya doing? 

It was nice yesterday hearing so many stories.  I have a few from a dad perspective, but it was good to hear some from a Ray perspective.
I could seriously write a novel for all things dad.  50 years of amazing wonderful memories for me!

Although our last name isn't really complicated, he found it much easier to introduce himself as Ray Cash easier to spell and pronounce I guess. And he would always throw in but don't get any ideas i'm not rich 

I coined the phrase Poooor Blaymainly when he runs into some bad luck....he'd always seemed to be the one stuck sitting beside the constant cougher or sneezer on the plane, or behind a multiple coupon holder in line at a grocery store.  Pooor Blay.

My dad was a funny guy.  He had no problem working a room even if they were mostly strangers.  He had that aura about him.  Approachable, friendly, and outgoing.  He entertained everyone within earshot.  I have so many fond memories of him.  He was the kind of father that would drop everything to throw a football around with us kids or lace up his 20 year old skates and chase the puck around.  Now hockey was not his primary sport (more on that later) and he could barely skate, but he made a valiant effort especially when we played at Belena Park, trying to scare his opponents away from the puck by blirting out blahahaha.  It seldom worked, but we all got a good laugh out of it.

He loved watching sportsespecially the Habs and Ti-cats.  And he would always want to make it interesting with a wager or two.  I always joked especially towards the end that if he wanted a good fitfull sleep to put it on the golf channel, 5 minutes later..he was out like a light.

Blay came from Lebanon when he was in his twenties, trying to make a better life for himself.  I always heard bits and pieces of his story, however just before he lost his capability of speaking we spent a few hours in the living room talking about his trek to Canada.  He actually was only supposed to stop by Ottawa on his way to live in Montreal.  But something magical happened for him when my aunt introduced him to her sister Sheila.  A few weeks later,  Montreal was but a distant idea and he started a life in Ottawa.  He took some odd jobs at first, Joe Feller, the Bay etc.  then he hit it big with a front office clerk job at the Chateau Laurier.  He quickly worked his way up to Manager, then many different management jobs within the hotel.  This was Ray at his best, meeting with the public, mingling and schmoozing with dignitaries from all over the world.  Mr. Charmer!!  He touched the lives of many people.  He was so passionate about his job that it was recognized by others and was hired to start up a Holiday Inn in Trinidad.  He also owned several businesses, Danek Imports on Sparks St. And Carling Square Restaurant, where he was in his element, however he ended up socializing more than working, much to my chagrin.

Dad loved the water, it was always precious to himwhether be the Oceans of Florida, the sea of Lebanon or the pool of Bloor, he always seemed at peace.  And as a father he made sure I never wasted a drop, ie if I kept the water running a second too long he made sure to tell me in his special way.  Water doesn't grow on trees ya know.

His last full day at his home was fitting... a beautiful summer Sunday sitting on his back deck, kids and adults hanging around the pool, he was simply beaming, the mayor of Bloor Street.  He loved being around people but especially ones he loved.  And seeing the happiness in his face knowing that everyone was enjoying his backyard.  Made me smile.

I noticed a while back that dad had this connection with children, it was especially noticeable with his great nieces and nephews, Alexander and the neighbor kids.  I always asked myself what is it that these kids find fascinating about my dad?  Then it hit me it is because he is a kid at heart, and the children can see this.  He was known as the master of fun.  No barriers maybe it was my generation where adults were addressed as Mr. or Mrs. , but I find it funny that a 5 year old is calling a 80 year old man by their first name.  Hi Ray.  I get quite a chuckle everytime I hear that.

His passion for golf is unheralded.  I guess my grandfather is to blame.  Ray recounted to me the first time they went out on the coursethe green grass, fresh air.  It wasn't the soccer pitch he was used to playing in Lebanon.  A whole new experience and comradery.  Maybe that's why he and my Giddoo got along so well, and partly why he was easily accepted into the Beauchamp family.  When he got on the course he was on a mission.  He owned it, as shown with his many trophies and accolades.  Graceful, confident, with a reputation to boot.  His shots were accurate and straight..usually after he'd tee off..he'd mutter da best...da best.  And as a bonus for me, he could easily spot my balls hundreds yards away in the rough.

To me he was more than just my father; he was my friend, always there for me, through thick and thin, kind, caring, loving, even though he can be a baby especially around Christmas time, making sure he had a lot of presents, my mom even had to wrap his  golf balls individually just so he had as much to open as us kids.

Not to say we didn't have our differences.  I still like Lafleur over Beliveau.  Or fighting for the last French fry or crispy noodles.  Avoiding his Saturday scrambled eggs became my mission in life as a kid...although his bbqs are legendary, he crusted those eggs up so much me and Kenny were forced to escape to Woolworths at Elmvale acres for lunch every week for 99 cent hotdogshaha.. he did try though.

Dr's always said that he had a really stong heart.  Dad would say strong like bull.  He also had a heart of gold to match.  His secret to staying trim and healthy all these years, a workout regime what he called culture physique, that he brought from Lebanon, along with swimming, golfing, and oh yeah not having a job for the past 25 years.  I'm sure I contributed to this when I finally moved out of the house for a 4th time, he must of done a dance for joy.   Although he kept his body regularily fit I am not sure about his hair styles and color.  He's had some crazy dye jobs throughout the years.

He took me and my mom to Lebanon before she passed away.  He made sure that every detail was taken care of, so we didn't have to worry about anything.  He took control and made it a trip of a lifetime.  He did the same with Danya as well. I could see in his eyes the happiness and how proud he was to finally bring his life from Canada back to his home country. 

Alexander adorded his Gidoo, my dad was a very active grandfather with him.  Engaging the child doing all kinds of activities be it swimming, mini putt or kicking the soccer ball around.  My son loved when we went for a family golf day (probably more because my dad let him drive the cart on the back nine).  They spent alot of time together and for that i am extremely grateful, that Alexander will have lasting memories of his Giddoo.

His courage was incredible during his illness.  Stayed independent as long as possible.  Until finally his brain caught up with his body.   But through it all, his proud smile would still be there.

He's now up in Paradise with Sheila, his brother, sisters and parents.  Though, I have a feeling he's going to have is hands full being a guardian angel to so many children, young and old.

I would like to also take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful people that supported my dad throughout this past year.  It did not go unnoticed by myself or my sister that his neighbours and friends were exceptional in providing comfort, food, companionship and love.  I cannot emphasize the appreciation I have for you.  You made my life a little easier and gave me solace knowing that my dad was surrounded by an amazing community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief.  May your memories bring you comfort.

Ray was always entertaining and fun to be around. And, as Sarah and Ray shared some common memories of a Lebanon now long disappeared, it added yet another layer to their friendship. He will be sadly missed. Sarah & Kent
