

Bob passed away peacefully on July 25, 2012 at Elizabeth Bruyere Health Centre, surrounded by the love of his wife and best friend, Anne Marie (O’Neill) and his sister-in-law, Peggy (O’Neill) Morley. Bob was born in Thornaby-on-Tees, Yorkshire, England on August 3, 1947 and spent his early childhood in Cambuslang, Scotland. He moved to Bedford, Nova Scotia with his family at the age of eleven. Bob graduated from Acadia University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Commerce and completed his CGA designation in 1971. He spent 35 years working for Revenue Canada, two years in Toronto as an auditor and the remainder of his career in Ottawa working as a Systems Analyst. Bob loved sports and participated in soccer, squash, tennis, curling and golf. He also enjoyed playing bridge with his wonderful bridge group. For over 30 years Bob and Anne Marie enjoyed their yearly visit to Barbados and the wonderful friends they made. Bob was a committed member of Riverside United Church where he was an elder and served on many committees. His great sense of humour, generosity, compassion and love of life will be greatly missed by his two brothers, Alistair (Linda) –Lunenburg, N.S., and Allan (Sheila) –Chester, N.S. and his many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents: the Rev. Dr. George and Margaret McNeill. Cremation has taken place under the direction of McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home. A service celebrating Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Riverside United Church, 3191 Riverside Drive. The family wishes to thank Dr. Bob Sutherland (Palo Alto, California) for being a mentor as well as a good friend and for facilitating the trip to Germany for treatment. Thanks also to Dr. Eapen, Dr. Canil and Dr. Kassam whose care and expertise were greatly appreciated. The nurses and staff at Elizabeth Bruyere Health Centre were very professional and compassionate as were the palliative team lead by Lynne Kachiuk at the Civic Hospital. Memorial donations in Bob’s memory can be made to Prostate Cancer.
