Shane Francis Herbert

Shane Herbert passed away suddenly while recovering from a serious car accident over 16 months ago. He maintained strength and will to thrive as he endured numerous surgeries with Kelly by his side throughout. During his rehabilitation he was able to connect with family and friends, as well as renew his passion for painting.

Shane is predeceased by his parents Ada (Redsell) and Gerald, as well as his sister Katherine Herbert.

Shane is lovingly remembered by his spouse Kelly (Decker) and children Krissy (Decker) and Cody (Hamelin), Katherine and Jeremy (Herbert), and grandchildren Celeste and Nathalie. Thoughts and prayers are shared by the Herbert siblings Lark, Deborah (late Frank Piccolo), Tim (Virginia) and Todd, as well as by Shane's many nieces and nephews. Shane is also remembered by the Decker family, including parents Ralph and Cheryl, and siblings Greg and Stephen (Wendy).

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Ottawa Civic Hospital ICU trauma and Orthopedic departments and the Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre's Acquired Brain Injury unit for their special care and support over the past 16 months. Thank you as well to all family members and friends who have reached out to Shane and Kelly to give them strength since the accident.

A Celebration of Life is postponed due to the pandemic, with a date to be determined. At that time the interment will take place at St. John the Evangelist Church in Enniskerry, Ontario. In honour of Shane's lengthy recovery efforts, donations can be made to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice.

I was so very sorry to hear of Shane's passing. I first met Shane in grade 9 at Canterbury High School and remember some good social gatherings we used to have at his parent's house. We lost touch over the years, but can see from the many memories shared that he lived a fulfilled life with a loving family and friends.

Our most sincere condolences to the Herbert family and the Decker family.

Shane willl be remembered by the staff on D7 Ortho where we not only looked after him as a patient but considered him as a friend. I met Shane and his family summer of 2020, he was in a wheelchair recuperating from his accident. I absolutely loved the family dynamic of his loving wife Kelly---he said she was his rock. Crissy & Cody were wonderful as well looking after him---no one complained, everyone was trying to get through this until he was well again. It was not in his vocabulary for him not to get well. He loved his paintings as he shipped them out to friends when they said they liked such and such a painting. Shane was so happy that he was on the road to recovery and he said he would not be where he was without the support of his loving wife Kelly and the kids, Krissy and Cody. This man had not one negative thing to say about the situation he was in from car accident. If we could all be more like him.......

Shane approached his physical rehab with determination, but he coped with humour, creative language and painting. His wit never paled, and the colours on the canvas were always bright, even when his mobility prospects seemed grim. It was an honour to work with him. Kelly, you were Shane's tower of strength and support throughout. My thoughts are with you and all his family.

Definitely not the best photo but Aaron & you were always to busy making each other laugh and smile to capture a half decent photo over the 5 years you were in my life we always lived in the moment as a family taking trips or having a few drinks around the farm, movie nights when every one was home that was probably one of your favourite things to do aside for picking on krissy & I.. I know you loved Aaron very much & were so proud to be called grandpa when he was born & I know you would have been involved More if you could have been but The universe had different plans for you these last two years, I hope you're finally at peace and not in pain! We love you and hope you're cracking jokes up there
