Seems like yesterday I was talking to Sylvia at her retirement party, she was so so happy that afternoon. Hard to believe she is gone for 8 years.
I have a note she wrote me about the gift I bought her, and I will cherish that beautiful note for ever.

Dear Sylvia, who was not only my loving sister, but the responsible, professional, lawful ethical Family Law Counter employee for the Ottawa court house.You helped many with your lawful & informative knowledge; seen many articling students become lawyers & were often asked why you don't become a lawyer - trust me, the way my last ten years+ has played out, I totally get why you didn't change your career path. You did however and were the main thunder behind the creation of FLIC (Family Law Information Counter), which you never boasted about or shared - but they have been instated across Ontario &greatly utilized to help thousands + members of all age, monetary situation; races of the public - and each grateful to have a FLIC at the courthouses. It's just a norm now. I am personally hoping that a bench will be set up in a park near flowers and near the water, maybe by the tulip festival which you so loved & in your memory, by the Province of Ontario - sadly, I don't know how to go about it...but keep hoping. Now, you probably know as I feel you with me, I'm hoping and praying for Arbitration Laws, and further Arbitration Laws Created to protect oppressed women across Ottawa, Ontario and probably beyond - to stay upheld to... It worries me so much what will happen if these laws aren't upheld and its huge negative impacts on women should that be the case... Can you believe that, something so major & me - Unbelievable...So... Yes, waiting - praying - as my lawyer is trying to keep these laws upheld for women, and me-in the very courthouse that you basically lived with your second family. I know they are a close knit group there & we know that not only was FLIC created to help people, but so were these valuable  laws . Thank you for being with me through this, I feel your presence, your encouragement, faith & trust in a lawful & ethical system. Love & miss you always Younger Sis... Hi my beautiful younger sister 😉, (you always told folks that didn't know us you were the younger one, your so beautiful 🥰), love you so much. We all still miss you every single day. I know and believe so deeply in my heart that you are always watching over us. You know it's been a tough year... You are in a better place and dont have to go through all this stuff and see how life and possibly the future has changed globally. I thank you for looking after my girls and being their, and Mama & Papa & your family. So many people have Christmas lights on their homes this year, the city is lite up so to say, more than ever...I know you'd love it, you always liked the Christmas lights too. It always warms my heart especially when I  see people putting angels out too. Please say hi to Emily and all our loved ones for me... And please show Alexander around too, as he has joined you all up their in heaven this week at also a too young age of 22, can you believe it, a heart attack! I learned today the number one cause of healthy men under 45 dying is heart attacks, unbelievable. Anyways,  We don't understand here why, but keep the faith that one day we will all be together again and that where you all are is more beautiful and peaceful and glorious better place than we can even imagine.  Oh, and your cat is with us now, Maisy passed to the rainbow bridge, and Emily missed her company terribly... I guess it's how things all work out sometimes... Emily sure is thrilled, as you know she also benefits greatly from him. I think perhaps he missed female company as he doesn't take his eyes off her, it's really quite sweet. Well, I love you so much, Mama and Papa are doing great thank God.Still stubborn lol, but doing well...Your Beautiful grandson is 3 already,can you imagine! He's very beautiful,I saw him at Papas 90th Drive through covid Birthday this summer -we know you were there too❤️. One year ago, I lost a very dear friend to ovarian cancer.  She fought a very brave battle always being Sylvia, courageous, smiling and thinking of others first.  Sylvia was always there to offer valuable and truthful advice.  Sylvia was a loving mother to Lisa and Eric ( I can still hear her calling them " shutzie" ) and laid a strong foundation for them.  She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister and aunt ...again always there for them.  They will always have cherished memories as I do.  Sylvia, rest in peace.  I miss you and am blessed to have had you as a friend.

We Love & Miss you Sylvia, and can't believe it's going on a year You should hear Melissa play her sax with the mouthpiece you got her, she can really play...and they almost always have her solo...I think she's a natural ~ she can "feel" the music, you can hear it when she plays. She says when she performs she feels like you are there... I tell her you are there! P.S. I read your new friend Carmel MacFarlane(RIP) is up there too... you probably already knew that, but just in case... you know me...I had to mention it! Now you two can connect, it sounds like she was an amazing wonderful woman too. ((hugs))

Just learned of Sylvia's passing and wanted to express my deepest sympathy to all her family.  I worked with Sylvia at the Court House for many years and always loved her great smile.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Pedro, I'm so very very sorry to learn of Sylvia's passing . Truly a great loss to many as I read all the tributes . It's been many years but seems like just yesterday we were celebrating Octoberfest at the Civic Centre . My sincere condolences to you, your children and both of your families .

Sylvia, it was a real honour to have had a friend who I could share so many  member able  moments with, As  my co-worker we had some really great times in all the years we worked together.  
Pedro, Lisa, Eric and family there are no words to describe your loss my deepest and sincere sympathy.

I met Sylvia only recently. We were in chemo treatment together at the Ottawa Hospital. During that time we shared a brief but warm friendship. It is a gift I shall always cherish. The last day we parted, just 3 weeks ago, she had asked for my phone number to keep in touch. I looked forward to hearing from her. But, sadly, we never connected again. As I continue on my journey with ovarian cancer, I will always cherish Sylvia. I feel blessed that our paths crossed.

The whole gang of us, Jill, Betty, Lorri, Cornelia, Lynn and myself Laurie (known  back then as Dodie). Sylvia was a tremendous help and inspiration when I was going through a family court issue and I'll never forget her words of hope and strength. She felt like my angel at such a hard time. I'm so sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I was sad to hear of Sylvia's untimely passing as she was just settling in to enjoy her well earned retirement.I knew Sylvia as a kind, generous, cheerful, knowledgeable and concientious public servant who was deeply committed to excellence in customer service. In my view, Sylvia was a model public servant. She served the Ottawa court, the East region and the Court Services Division's corporate offices with distinction by working with others on corporate planning and operational committees. Sylvia was instrumental in the successful implementation of the Unified Family Court and one of the first Family Law Informations Centers in the Province. Sylvia, thank you for all you have done to make the Ottawa Court a better place for everyone who works there and who comes there for service. May the good memories of knowing you and your legacy give comfort to your family and co-workers.

Very sorry to hear of Sylvia's passing my heart and condolences go out to her family. I have many memories of our past growing up in Blossom Park going to elementary school and then high school.
Sylvia was a beautiful and bright girl with a good sense of humor. It saddens me that this lovely woman was taken at such early time in her life.  My prayers are with all the families.

I knew Sylvia growing up in Blossom Park.  Over the last few years,  it was a privilege to see her again between having dinner with friends and running into her at Costco. I read about Sylvia's passing on facebook.  I knew Sylvia and her cousin Timmy or Lehel in grade school.

She always had the most beautiful homemade dresses I've ever seen.

She was truly a lovely person so down to earth.

She will be missed.

I met Sylvia some 30 some years ago when I started at the courthouse during her mat leave.  What now feels like yesterday, she brought her beautiful Lisa in to  meet everyone.  She was so proud.  I was still at the courthouse when she had Eric.  I remember her saying she now had a millionaires family!!   She could not have been happier!    Reading all of the tributes to Sylvia, I too feel the same way as many of her colleagues have expressed.  Sylvia had a heart of gold and was always there for her colleagues and friends. She never let us down!  She was then, as I've  read now, a fashionista before the term was used!!  Though we lost touch over the last 20 some years, I thought of her often and prayed for her this last year.  I hoped and prayed that she would successfully fight this terrible disease that claimed my beautiful sister a few years ago.   I offer my sincere condolences to her family, her children, Pedro, Monica and Sylvia's mom and dad, who are now living what no parent should have to!!  .  I know the unbearable pain you feel at this time.  In time, you will be comforted by all of the wonderful  memories.
