Tony was born in 1935 to Raymond and Mabel Dean and grew up in an Irish Catholic family in Cantley, Quebec. As the oldest of six children, Tony’s early years were spent on the Dean farm on St. Elisabeth Road, which is still in the family to this day. In 1960, Tony married the love of his life, Sharon Flint, and moved to Ottawa where they raised their four children. Tony spent his career working for the City of Ottawa as a stationary engineer and retired from the Parks and Recreation Department as Manager of Brewer Park Pool in 1993.
Tony was an active member of the Canada Capital A’s Antique Car Club and for many years could be seen driving with Sharon on country roads in their prized 1931 Ford “Model A”. Tony and Sharon loved to travel. Along with fellow car enthusiasts, they drove to “Model A” Car Shows in eastern Canada and United States. The couple spent many winter months in Myrtle Beach and Florida, went on numerous cruises and travelled extensively throughout Europe and Australia.
Always one to lend a helping hand, Tony spent 20 years of his retirement as a community volunteer with the Ottawa Police Service, where he developed an expertise in home security. He was affectionately known to his family as “Health and Safety Tony.” Tony also had a strong faith being a member of the Knights of Columbus and for over 30 years served as an usher at St. Elisabeth’s Parish.
Tony was the nicest man you could ever meet. He always made time for others and made friends everywhere he went. Nothing made Tony happier or prouder than being surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grandpa Tony will be greatly missed.
Tony is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sharon (nee Flint), his son Stephen (Elizabeth), his daughters Elayne (Patrick), Sandra (Wayne) and Shelley (Michael), his grandchildren Kenneth (Jessica), Christian (Victoria), Justin (Suzanne), Megan (Danny), Zachary (Erica), Kate (Taylor), Dillon (Emma) and Jesse, his great grandchildren Gabrielle, Sienna, Alexandra, James, Scarlett, William, and Joseph.
