Wynneth Wood Turnbull was born in Sunderland, England, on the 15th of July, 1922. She was the oldest of four children of the owner of a Butcher business so the family never went hungry even during the war. Wynneth attended Bede Preparatory school where she excelled scholastically before heading to Teachers College where she specialized in math for elementary students. She taught at St John’s on the Docks before being romanced by a wayward Canadian Black Watch Officer visiting Family during the WW II. She married Dad and had two little war babies that she brought on her own to Pier 21 in Halifax before joining Dad in Montreal. A son, David, was born in Toronto before Dad headed to Korea leaving Mom in a strange land with three small sons all on her own. Those war brides were tough. Life was hectic before Dad retired with moves to Calgary, Edmonton, England, Kashmir, Pakistan, Nova Scotia, Germany, and back to Nova Scotia before Dad retired from the army and they moved to Montreal where the greatest surprise arrived, the fourth son, Mark.
A few years later they moved to Nova Scotia to operate the Bright House fine dining in Sherbrooke which for 20 years was acknowledged in “Where to Eat in Canada.” Very involved in the Eastern Shore community, Mom and Dad were recognized for their valuable contributions.
They moved to Kanata in 1993 to be near grandchildren but sadly, Mom lost the love of her life to cancer in 1996. She struggled in latter years although she managed to travel to England to support family there and Nova Scotia to spend time with the newly burgeoning family of her eldest son.
Wynneth produced four sons, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren, all whom will miss her dearly. She died peacefully at 1410 hours on the 12 September 2017. She now joins husband Gordon and her son David in peace with the Lord.
