KERR, Catherine Yvonne (nee Cote)...It is with a heavy heart that I announce Mom's peaceful passing on November 1, 2016 at Moments Manor in Orleans, Ontario. Mom leaves us to join her parents Christina and Joseph Didace Cote, her beloved husband Orville, and her adoring daughter Cathy. She leaves behind her devoted son David (Calgary) and her loving sister Bunny who was married to the late Cy Marcellus. Mom will be fondly remembered and missed by her many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends. Mom lived her whole life in the Ottawa area and was immensely proud to call our nation's capital her home. She was a very active member in her communities...Riverview Park, Constance Bay, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the city of Ottawa, the province of Ontario, and indeed, our country Canada. A (very) few examples...Initiating the Polio shot program for the children of Riverview and area, being the 'Queen Mother' at the annual regatta parade in Constance Bay, a founding member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish and it's Catholic Family Movement group. She also led the successful effort to save the old Union Station downtown from the wrecking ball. As a member of the Jaycettes, Civitan, and Kiwanis service clubs over the years, Mom constantly 'went to bat' for those less fortunate around her. Professionally, Mom worked both as a civil servant and for my Father; but her favourite job was the time she spent as a Citizenship Judge. Mom loved the opportunity to share our Canadian values and positively impact the lives of new Canadians, make them feel welcome, and help them start their new lives with good direction. As golf was to Dad...Politics was to Mom! A former President of the Ottawa-Carleton Liberal Association, she was very active in campaigns, elections, recruitment, and fund-raising at all three levels of government...forming a lot of great lifetime friendships along the way. An unwavering 'Grass Roots Grit' to the end! I must extend my eternal gratitude to all those who have helped take care of Mom over the last several years. Especially all the wonderful people at The Perley and Rideau Assisted Living Program and Day Program...Management and Staff at Moments Manor, the C.C.A.C., Bayshore Home Health, the Bruyere Geriatric Psychiatry Unit, CareFor, all the Doctors, Nurses, and Attendants who helped along the way. Thanks also to the folks at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home for their kind help at this difficult time. Thanks to all of you from the bottom of my heart for your care and dedication...YOU ARE ALL ANGELS! Visitation will be held at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Patrick`s Basilica on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. with Interment to follow at Hope Cemetery. There will be light lunch served back at the funeral home after the ceremony at Hope. In lieu of flowers, grateful donations may be made to either the Alzheimer Society of Canada or St. Patrick`s Basilica.
