

Catherine was born to the late Alexander and Elizabeth Bender in Mandan, North Dakota on October 23, 1944. As a young girl, the family sold their farm and moved to California where Catherine attended St. Catherine Laboure School through the 8th grade, and graduated from Bishop Montgomery High School, both located in Torrance, California. She continued her education at Flavio Beauty College where she fulfilled her dream of becoming a licensed cosmetologist.
Catherine was a hairdresser in Torrance, CA for more than 30 years where she did just about everyone’s hair! She continued to do hair Windsor, CT for an additional 10 years in a retirement community. Catherine loved being a hairdresser, loved her clientele, and was truly great at her profession. Later in life, before retiring, she worked at Seabury Retirement Community in Bloomfield, CT where she assisting residents in the dining rooms, and lead many activities for the residents including her famous “Coffee with Catherine” afternoons where she would lead discussions and sing songs.
Catherine was an amazing and loving mother, “maga”, and grandma. She had a zest for life, a quick wit, and was always the life of the party. A ham through and through who enjoyed performing and singing for everyone! She had a strong faith and deep personal relationship with the Lord. Catherine was instrumental in bringing many to know Christ as their personal savior. Catherine was a selfless woman who always put others, especially her children before herself. She was a true prayer warrior who always had a long list of items to pray for, from her family members to our country, if it needed prayer, you could count on Catherine to pray for it. Well done, good and faithful servant! May you delight in the presence of the Lord forever!
Catherine is survived by her two children; Roann Bender and Tony Broude, Jr., a daughter-in-law; Susan, and three granddaughters; Jordan Elizabeth, Madison Catherine, and Morgan Lia, six siblings; Bill, Betty, Eugene, Andy, Monica, and Rosa, and a very large extended family. Her parents; Alexander Sr. and Elizabeth as well as a brother, Alexander Jr., precede Catherine in death.
Donations can be made to either the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association. A celebration of life will be scheduled and held at a later date.
