

Concha was born on December 14, 1924, in Pomona, Ca., to Pedro and Glafira A. Gutierrez.
Her son, Joe Anthony Chavez; daughter Carol Ann Gonzales; brothers Catarino and Eluterio Gutierrez; sister Adela Rochin; and grandson Ruben Bustamante precede her in death. She leaves her daughters Diana Bustamante and Joyce Chavez; sister Maria McCarty; grandchildren Vera Montijo, Robert and Ronald Bustamante, Elaine Martinez, Carlos, Johnny, and Danny Gonzales, Roberto J. and Velia V. Soto, Joe Anthony Chavez, and Anthony Joseph Chavez; seventeen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. When we think of Concha, we remember her exemplary work ethic, strong will, and honesty.
She began working as a migrant laborer, often telling stories of difficult times in the fields, especially when picking cotton. During World War II, she worked at an aircraft factory in Los Angeles. When she came to Oxnard 67 years ago, she worked at the Heublein Foods cannery. Her most fulfilling career was as a Para Educator for the Oxnard Elementary School District. She had a love for children and education especially with Special Education and Migrant Ed classes. Concha retired after 20 years from the Oxnard Elementary School District.
Concha loved the Big Bands of the 40's and Mariachi music, along with dancing. With her extended family she often enjoyed family gatherings, birthdays and special occasions. She was a fan of Jack LaLanne, enjoyed reading, especially Danielle Steel and V. C. Andrews books, socializing at the Wilson Senior Center, and regularly attending Mass at Santa Clara Catholic Church.
Visitation will be at the Funeraria del Angel Conrad-Carroll Mortuary, 401 W. Channel Islands Blvd., Oxnard on Monday, December 3, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. with the Rosary commencing at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass is Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Santa Clara Church, 323 South E St., Oxnard. Burial follows at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North H Street, Oxnard.
