Uncle, although I never got to say my good byes properly, I wanted to let you know. 

I won't think of this as good bye, because we will see each other again. For now, on the new journey that lies ahead for you, I light three candles. 

One for strength, to keep you strong when the road seems long. One for courage, to help you face the unknown. The last candle, is for love, to let love guide you home.

I pray for you, and your family. May God lead you to where you must go. But always remember, this is never good bye, we will meet again.

The beginning is always the hardest, but the ending... there is never an ending. Always just a new chapter.

When I think of Kuya Danny back to the days when we were younger, our children still in diapers, our nieces playing in our patio or in our lawn or in our living room, sharing our finger foods while enjoying the company of our in-laws (parents, sisters, and brothers), his brothers, cousins, and friends over bottles and cans of beers, I remember how much he loved telling stories and anecdotes about his experiences, other peoples experiences and other things of both minute and extra ordinary happenings. His stories most of the time livens up our gatherings. Our summers were spent wandering through the different theme parks, playgrounds, lakes, woods, looking for adventure or fun for our families and friends. Adventures to be retold on future family get-togethers. And generally doing things that would have given our family great times together and for us, as parents, gray hair much sooner.

More than a simple â€œstory tellerâ€, Kuya Danny had a happy soul, as I'm sure many of his close friends and even acquaintances can attest to. He never came to a social gathering without hundreds of stories to tell. He always have anecdotes and stories to tell which always adds life to the party!
Kuya Danny also had a compassionate soul especially to children in general and to his nieces and nephews, in particular. He never met a nephew or a niece in need that he didn't find some way of helping.
When you combine the facts that Kuya Danny was a compassionate soul and an exceptional story teller, it's not difficult to understand why he will be greatly missed in parties, in gatherings and most especially on holidays!
It may comfort us all a bit to realize that Kuya Danny is now reunited with his beloved father, Cirilo, and that someday we'll all be together again when we cross over to the other side. This is only a brief parting in the larger scheme of life.
One thing you may or may not know is that Kuya Danny, way before MapQuest or any of these satellite gadgets were known, he is a human Road Atlas! Whenever my family will go to a new place to visit, I always go to him and ask for directions, he was indeed a huge help during travel season.
What will I remember most about Kuya Danny?  His love for his son, his daughter-in-law, his wife, his love for animals especially roosters and horses, and his love of driving. What will I miss most about Kuya Danny?  My brother-in-law, one of the person that I look for first in our family get-together, and the person I pick up the phone to call first when I need to find driving directions to a new theme park, landmark, lost city or any new place I haven't been into.

Kuya Danny's death was sudden, totally unexpected but his life was not faint.  His memory will always be with us, and his legacy will continue through his son.  Kuya Danny would be grinning if he is here with us today. I'm very sure he would have some great funny stories to tell to make everyone comfortable, and we would for a moment forget our sadness.  I will miss my brother-in-law, but I am so grateful for having known him.

Even though your departure from life was sad, your memories will continue to make us smile and laugh. Even before your departure, my sisters and I would laugh at some of the silly responses to our questions when we were younger. The "jobs" you offered to pay us, smelling your breath to see if it smelled like Colgate, plucking your grey and white hairs; although they seemed silly, it made you special and unforgettable.
My family and I enjoyed the time we had when you lived with us and we never regretted a single moment. May you continue to fill our hearts with laughter, may you truly rest in peace.
