

Harriet C. Feather, age 93 of Oxnard, California passed away on Sunday, May 7th in Camarillo California surrounded by her niece, and the loving caregivers of Ashley Manor 1.
Harriet Catherine Feather was born in Los Angeles, California on January 17, 1930, to
Robert John Feather and Apollonia Harriet Feather. To her family, she was known as ‘Howie’. She attended 74th Street Elementary School, Horace Mann Jr. High, and George Washington High School, all located in Los Angeles. She graduated from George Washington High School in January 1948. Howie was very accomplished in High School. She was a CSFF Seal bearer, and member of the Spanish Club, where she received the Spanish Medal all 4 years. She was the Feature Editor of the school’s newspaper, The Surveyor. She was also a member of the Glee Club. In February 1950, Howie graduated with Honors from Los Angeles City College, where she earned her Associate of Arts Degree in Secretarial Science. She was a member of the Associated Business Students Society, Alpha Pi Epsilon, and the Secretarial Honor Society. Howie’s first employment was as a Clerk Stenographer with the County and City of Los Angeles, Consumer Corp. In the fall of 1954 Howie enrolled in the California State University of L.A. to obtain her secondary teaching credential. In February 1958, Howie received her B.A. in Business Education and a minor in Social Science. In 1959 Howie moved from Los Angeles to Oxnard and started her first teaching job at Oxnard High School from September 1959-June 1960. She was transferred to Adolfo Camarillo High School in September 1960 where she taught business subjects and English. Howie retired from Camarillo H.S. in June of 1988. Her fellow Adolfo Camarillo H.S. faculty members voted her their “Teacher of the Year in 1988”. Her biography appears in the 1989 publication of Who’s Who in Secondary Education. Howie was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Oxnard, teaching Sunday school and she sang in the Sr. Choir. She also played the piano for their preschool. For 5 years, she volunteered at Julien Hathaway Elementary in the Port Hueneme School District reading to third graders. Howie’s hobbies included playing piano, writing, and playing with her dog. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Connie Byrne, and nephews, Dale Jensen and John Jensen. She is survived by her sister Bobbie Feather of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. Our family would like to say thank you to Ashley Manor 1 in Camarillo for their kind and loving care of Howie these past 5 ½ years. Also, thank you to ACCESS TLC Hospice and their team for the wonderful care they showed Howie in her time of need. We are eternally thankful to both of these organizations. Howie’s viewing will be on 5/31/23 from 10 am-12 noon at Funeraria Del Angel, 401 W. Channel Islands Bl. in Oxnard, followed by 1 pm Graveside Services at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 5400 Valentine Rd. in Ventura. In lieu of flowers, it was Howie’s wish for any charitable donations to be made to her favorite dog rescue, ‘Dobies and Little Paws Rescue’ in Fillmore.
