Our beloved husband, Dad, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather took God's hand in the early morning hours of March 4, 2023, at his Oxnard home, with his loving family by his side. He was 91. Louis was born on January 10, 1932 in El Rio, California to Roman and Virginia Solano Solis. Louis was a lifelong resident of Ventura County.
At the age of 19, Louis enlisted in the Army, Completing basic-training in 1951. Soon after, he shipped off to fight in the Korean War Conflict where he fought in three major offensive battles, distinguishing himself as a Korean War combat veteran. He served bravely as a squad-leader on the battlefield and was promoted to Staff Sergeant while stationed in Japan. After returning to the states in 1953, Louis got orders to report to Camp Desert Rock in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was there that he became an Atomic Bomb Soldier. Louis participated in one, in-a-series-of, Atomic Bomb Test-detonations in the desert of western Nevada, known as Desert Rock Five. The classified operation Louis was a part of was named "Upshot Knothole Nancy" which took place on March 24, 1953. After completing posting assignments in three other states, Louis was honorably discharged from the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class in June 1954. Shortly after his military Army discharge, Louis started his civilian career as a certified pipe-fitter at Point Mugu Naval Air Station, Ventura County.
Louis and Beverly were blessed with twin girls, Valerie and Malerie, who were the center of their universe. Louis loved his girls beyond measure. He was a proud and devoted father. His daughters felt his unconditional love throughout their lives. Papa's passing has left a huge void in our hearts and lives. His presence will be dearly missed. "Love you to the Moon and back" Daddy!
Louis was an avid sports fan throughout his life. He particularly enjoyed watching and rooting for UCLA men's basketball. He would rarely miss an opportunity to attend the numerous sporting events of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren, which brought him so much joy. He was a gifted self-taught artist, creating cartoons to portraits. He could whip up anything where even a doodle would turn into a work of art.
Louis and Beverly were blessed to travel in their retirement. Their most memorable trip was to Jerusalem's Holy Land, where they renewed their marriage vows in a spiritual ceremony in Cana of Galilee, Israel. They were also present at the Great Jubilee 2000 in Rome receiving plenary indulgences in St. Peter's Basilica. They were fortunate to receive blessings from Saint Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis at the Vatican.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents Roman and Virginia Solis and Siblings Susan Montgomery, Joe Solis, Rudy Solis, Raymond Solis and Tommie Martinez.
He is survived by his wife Beverly. They were married for 68 wonderful years. Daughters Valerie Bartosh (Donald) and Malerie Keane, grandson Heath Bartosh (Reneé) granddaughter Candice Saucedo (Jeffrey), great-grandchildren Finnegan Saucedo, Joaquin Bartosh, Powell Saucedo and Roman Bartosh.
