Clinton Gary Matthews

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2011, from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with Rev. Leonard Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Ozark Cemetery under the direction of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, October 14, from 6-8 p.m. at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.

Clinton Gary Matthews was born December 16, 1950 in Ozark, Alabama to the late Aubrey J. Matthews, Sr. and Clara G. Matthews. He joined the First Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He attended D.A. Smith School and in 1970 he joined the United States Air Force. Also in 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Reese, on December 7. In addition to his parents, Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by two sisters: Deloise Shipmon and Leona Harrison; and one brother, Robert Peterson.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 40 years, Carolyn Matthews; five daughters: Markita, Shay, Alecia, Martha Holmes and Natalie Holmes; one grandson, Cameron; three sisters: Cynthia (Ishmael) Powell of Lakeland, FL, Olivia Matthews and Etta Matthews, both of Ozark; two brothers: George Leroy Matthews of Toledo, OH and Aubrey J. Matthews, Jr. of Ozark; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Shirley Peterson of Providence, RI, Geraldine and D. Ford of Mullins, SC, Charlotte Hardy, Wyatt Reese, and Sony Reese, all of Ozark; other relatives and friends.
