M. Sleepy Man C. Sistrunk

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at St. Peter AME Church in Clio, Alabama with Pastor Dwight Ingram and Rev. George Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery in Blue Springs, Alabama under the direction of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, November 30, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark.

M.C. Sistrunk was born September 17, 1936 in Clio, Alabama to the late J.D. Sistrunk and Clara McRae Sistrunk. He received his education at Cross Road School “near Blue Springs, Alabama”, also at Clio Public Schools. M.C. joined Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age. He was joined by God in marriage to Barbara Jean “Shorty” Sistrunk for 48 years. He was employed by Atlas Van Lines and Covan Worldwide Moving Inc. as a truck driver for 36 years.

M.C. was preceded in death by two brothers: Ezekiel Sistrunk and J.D. Sistrunk; two nieces: Susan Watson and Mary Donaldson; two dear cousins: Bishop Eddie David Hayes and Willie David McRae; a special friend, Mitchell White; and two brothers-in-law, Elisha Mayo and Jimmy L. Coleman.

Left to cherish his memories are a loving wife, Barbara Jean “Shorty” Sistrunk; two daughters: Annie Clara “Bogie” Sistrunk (Frederick) of Houston, TX and Valerie “Baby Girl” Sistrunk of Dothan, AL; three sons: Tony C. Sistrunk (Jeanette) of Clio, AL, Darrion T. Sistrunk (Annette) of Montgomery, AL, and Gabriel Sistrunk (Ruth) of Ozark, AL; one sister, Ruthie Mae Sistrunk, of Clio, AL; one brother, R.C. Chaney (Ira), of Jacksonville, FL; and one niece, Elaina Pruitt (John), of Skipperville, AL. He also leaves behind 24 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, one great-niece, one great-nephew, a band of brothers from Covan Moving Co., and three special people who were always there when called upon: daughter-in- law Ruth Sistrunk, Katie Chambers, and Marilyn Gray; as well as a host of relatives and friends.
