Mary Ruth Blackman Boutwell

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Center Ridge Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Center Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3573 N Hwy 123, Ariton, AL 36311.

Mrs. Boutwell was born on December 3, 1921, in Dale County, Alabama to the late Shelby and Willie Segler Blackman. She graduated from Ariton High School, and after graduation, attended business college in Montgomery, Alabama. She worked with civil service as an aircraft mechanic at Maxwell Air Force Base during World War II. She worked as a beautician for several years after leaving civil service. After the war, while working at Maxwell Air Force Base, she met her husband of 59 years, Roy Boutwell. They were married on May 3, 1946, and had one son, Ronald, who died in 1982. Mary and Roy lived in Montgomery until 1977, when they moved to Ariton.

Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She loved being a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking. She especially loved flowers and being outdoors working in her yard or riding their ATV. She was a long time member of Center Ridge Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy; her beloved son, Ronald; brothers, Grady and Owyer Blackman; sister, Lucile Blackman DiBattista.

She is survived by a sister, Grace Blackman Griffin of Ariton; sister-in-law, Grace Peters Blackman of Ozark; nieces Jane Griffin Williams (Claud) of Albany, GA, Theresa Blackman Jernigan (Bob) of Ariton, Judy Blackman Johnston of Brundidge, and Janet Blackman Breland (Bill) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; several special great nephews and nieces. She was greatly loved and will be missed.

Serving as pallbearers will be Claud Williams, Bob Jernigan, Jeff Johnston, Clay Jernigan, Shanon Jernigan, and Jared Johnston.
