Mary Ellen Christmas Griffin

Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Monday, March 21, 2011 at the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with Reverend Eddie Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Dothan with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be on Monday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mary was born May 5, 1927 in Henry County to the late Leroy and Flossie Brackin Christmas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Willie Harry Griffin and a brother, Leroy Christmas, Jr.

Mary was quiet and loving. She always had a kind word and smile. She was the foundation of her family. Her home was always open to family and friends. She made sure that everyone who came had some of her wonderful cooking. Mary worked as a Practical Nurse at Southern Clinic until she retired. She was a member of the Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Newville, AL.

She leaves to cherish her sweet memory; daughter and son-in-law, Maryian and George Llopis III, Ozark; granddaughter, Christyl Champion (Corey Sr.), Rock Hill, SC; two sisters, Sarah Greene, Kingsville, OH and Marie Pryor (Bill), Slocomb; sister-in-law, Carrie Christmas, Dothan; great-grandchildren, Kyndall Champion and Corey Champion, Jr., Rock Hill, SC; nine nieces, Mamie Lenon, Emma Jean Rhodes, Alice Ethridge, Curlene West, all of Dothan, Cheryl Scott, Belleville, IL, Karen Spencer, Birmingham, Brenda and Patricia Greene, Cleveland, OH and Rose Marie Butts, Dayton Beach, FL; fourteen nephews, Mance Griffin, Dothan, David Griffin, Newton, George Carmichael, Birmingham, Leroy Christmas III, Lamar and Freddie Glenn, Dothan, LaShawne Pryor, Philadelphia, Ronnie, Prentise, Peter, Bruce and Howard Greene, Cleveland, OH, Albert David Griffin, Erial, NJ and Mark Patrick Griffin, Jacksonville, NC, and a host of relatives and friends.
