

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 4, 2014, from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home, with Reverend Roger Stone officiating. Burial will follow in the Starling Cemetery in Troy with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
Shannon was born on May 1, 1967 to Arthur Lee and Sallie Kathryn Starling Thompson in Troy, Alabama.
He attended Wiregrass Church in Dothan. He was in the Carroll High School musicals, Guys & Dolls, Oklahoma!, The Music Man, and was Conrad Birdie in Bye Bye Birdie, all under the direction of Margie Benson. Shannon was the co-owner and founder of Save-A-Smoker, and served on the Board of Directors of the Wish Upon A Star Performing Arts Company. Shannon was an avid fisherman and Alabama fan, and loved playing guitar. He was in the Carroll High School and Troy University bands. He served in the U.S. Army in the late 1980’s. He had a tremendous impact on the people he met and knew. He also adored his family, especially his daughter and wife.
Shannon was preceded in death by his mother, Sallie Kathryn Thompson; maternal grandparents, Frank Starling and Esta Mae Starling Keller; paternal grandparents, Ernest Thompson and Ida Bell Simmons.
He is survived by his wife, Tiffany Thompson of Ozark; his daughter, Miranda Thompson of Ozark; father, Arthur Lee Thompson of Ozark; sister, April Thompson (Eric) Slaick of Dothan; brother, Stanley Thompson of Ozark; nieces and nephews, Logan Slaick, Lillie Slaick, Laurali Slaick; lifelong friends (like family), and many adopted nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Thompson, Wendell Thompson, Tim Whitehead, Rusty Whitehead, William Starling, Kenny Elwood, Aaron Stratton, and Jon Kelley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Shannon’s name to the Wish Upon A Star Performing Arts Company, c/o Commercial Bank, P.O. Box 1029, Ozark, AL 36361.
