Wanda Elaine Snell Hughes

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Morgan Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Weed and Rev. Darryl Hammonds officiating. Burial will follow in Bersheba Cemetery under the direction of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Morgan Baptist Church, 3797 County Road 333, Skipperville, AL 36374.

Wanda, daughter of the late Arthur and Meriam Martin Snell, was born June 6, 1943 in Dale County, Alabama. As a faithful member of Morgan Baptist Church, she was leader of the Senior Adult Fellowship, treasurer of the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), a member of the church choir, teacher of the Mission Friends, and always participated in Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the South Dale Community Cottage Prayer Group. Wanda’s civic involvement included membership in the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and the Skipperville Home Extension Club.

Wanda, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, spent her life taking care of her husband, raising her two daughters and investing in the lives of her four grandsons.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Merlin Hughes, of Skipperville, AL; two daughters: Angie Stinson and husband, Keith, of Shorterville, AL, and Frances Barnwell and husband, James, of Dothan, AL; and four grandsons: Garrett Stinson, Dustin Stinson, Matthew Barnwell, and Mitchell Barnwell.
