He was born in Mesopotamia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He was the oldest of three children. His sisters Dorel and Hilta have preceded him in death. He grew up in Mesopotamia with his sisters and a loving extended family. As an adult he moved to Canada for better work opportunities. He met and married the love of his life there, Ivy who preceded him in death. Although Ivy died 25 years ago, she was never far from his thoughts. In fact, his last words to us a week prior to his death was “Ivy is going to be so sad that her sister has passed. Our beloved Aunt Bo passed away on July 4, 2025. Alphie and Ivy’s marriage was a beautiful partnership, with deep roots in their faith in God. Together they raised a son, Kiplin, who was born in 1965. Alphie, Ivy and Kiplin relocated from Montreal to Brooklyn, New York where Alphie worked as a Dietician at Bellevue Hospital in New York City for more than 25 years. Shortly before Kiplin married in 1992, Alphie and Ivy and several family and friends moved to Palm Bay, Florida, a city that was growing rapidly at the time. Although retired, Alphie was a type of person to just play golf or dominos. He often asked, “What’s the point of retiring, sitting around doing nothing?” He worked diligently at L3Harris Corporation in Palm Bay, waking up at 4:00am every morning, heading off to work well into his 80’s.
He loved his grandchildren Kenan and Tyler very much; and he was very happy his wife Ivy met them before she passed. Alphie's faith in God was forever present in his life and until a few years ago, was a devoted member of Palm Bay United Methodist Church. He loved to feed people; he was a great cook and baked amazing bread. He loved to watch war movies and westerns on television. Kiplin, Alphie and grandson Kenan shared a particular passion for NASCAR. We had the pleasure to be present while the three of them watched cars go around and around the track.
He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his wisdom and sense of humor. In fact, for the past 30 years, any time I asked him how he is doing, he would answer "so, so” with a little smile and I would laugh. We are sure his wise quotes will be passed on to future generation, quotes such as “Never look down on anyone unless you are picking them up” and “Pride will feel pain.”
He is survived by his spouse, Adanell Wilson Lake, whom he married late in life, his children, Kiplin, Dan and Susan, his grandchildren, Kenan and Tyler. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
“Life gives us brief moments with each other but sometimes those brief moments give us memories that last a lifetime.” Author Unknown

A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 10:00AM at Fountainhead Memorial Park at 7303 Babcock Street SE Palm Bay, Florida 32909.
