

He was born April 15, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Andrew and Mary Vitzthum. His siblings were Richard and Margaret. He served in the Army Reserves during the Korean War and earned a BS in mechanical engineering. He married Kathleen C. Curran on August 29th, 1959. He worked with Grumman during the heady days of the race to the moon and worked on the lunar module. He retired from Grumman and moved to Florida along with his wife Kay. He enjoyed his retirement playing golf and cruising the open oceans with Kay and friends
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathleen C. Vitzthum and sons: Robert G. Vitzthum and his wife Katherine; Edward G. Vitzthum and his wife Donna; Andrew T. Vitzthum and his wife Linda and grandchildren: Amanda, Jessica, Alex, Patrick, Ryan, Serena, Logan, and Delaney.
He is predeceased by his daughter Caroline and his son Gerard.
Services will be held as follows:
- Interment: Friday, February 2nd, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Pinelawn National Cemetery.
- Memorial Mass: Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes in West Islip.
