A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, June 16th at Fountainhead Memorial Park, 7303 Babcock St SE, Palm Bay, FL 32909.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Zereda Hart, and his three children and their spouses, Leslie Howard (Mike), Ross Hart (Cheryl), and John Hart (Jaden). Also surviving are his adoring grandchildren, Justin Howard, Joshua Howard, Matthew Hart, and Samantha Pollack. The family asks that in lieu of flowers to please make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Ronald McDonald House.
Born September 25, 1925 in Jacksonville, Florida, Charlie lived a long life full of love, accomplishment, and service to his country. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, with service in the Merchant Marines, United States Navy, and the Naval Reserve. He was a graduate of Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in New York in the class of ‘45. At the age of 18, on June 6, 1944, he participated in the D-Day invasion as a midshipman aboard the USS George Goethals. Toward the end of the war on November 1945, Charlie was serving as Engineer aboard the SS Cedar Mills when she struck a mine off the coast of Italy. He narrowly escaped with his life. During the Korean War, Charlie served as a naval officer on the USS Coral Sea, reaching the rank of Lt. Commander. After the war, Charlie attended the University of Florida and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Later he worked as a program manager for NASA on both the Apollo and Shuttle programs. While working for NASA, he earned his MBA from Florida State University. He retired from NASA in 1985.
Charlie Hart Jr. was a believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a member of Berachah Church in Houston, Texas. He studied the word of God extensively under Reverend R. B. Thieme, Jr.
