He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. A retired U.S. Navy Diver, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal. David was a member of the Navy Divers’ Association and liked attending the Navy Reunions as well as vacationing to Rhode Island.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Josephine Downey.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Barbara Downey of Palm Bay; sons: Michael and Bryan Downey of RI; brother, George Downey of RI; sister, Virginia O'Connor of NH; grandson, Logan Downey; one great-grandchild, John David Downey, as well as several extended family members.
