AVIS DE DÉCÈS

George E. Odaffer

13 juillet , 193413 juin , 2019

George Eugene Odaffer, 84, passed away on June 13, 2019 at Vitas Hospice in Rockledge, Florida. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was the widower of Eva Odaffer whom passed way in 2013. They shared 57 wonderful years of marriage together.

Born in Jacksonville, Illinois, he was the son of Ray and Edna Odaffer. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville Illinois. He held many occupations in life, each of which taught him valuable skills. The one that he was most proud of though was being a radio and radar technician- this is what most people knew him as too.

A true patriot at heart, he served in the Air Force for eight years. When that chapter of his life ended, he remained loyal to his country and became a commander of The American Legion in Ascension Island. He held this title for five years. He was also a member of the Toast Masters International.

During his retirement years, George began to follow the stock market- investing money became a favorite pastime of his. He also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and completing jigsaw puzzles. He spent a lot of time reading too. He used to be an avid board game and card player. Monopoly and chess were two of his favorite games.

George will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, being a critical thinker, and his love for common sense. You wouldn’t expect it, but he was very down to earth too. He often gave excellent advice and would be willing to help solve any problem that was presented to him.

A family man, he will be missed by those that he left behind. This includes his children, one daughter and three sons; and his two grandchildren. He was predeceased by both of his parents; his wife, Eva; and his five siblings.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 12:00 pm at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, Florida with interment directly afterwards at Fountainhead Memorial Park. The visitation will be held from 11:00 am to the time of the service.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.

Dad although you are gone from us for the time being, we will meet up again and live eternally together. We were blessed to have you to ourselves for a little while after mom's passing and will treasure all the times we spent together. You left us with stories of your life and adventures for us to hold on to and remember. Even during this difficult time, we smile and laugh remembering different stories you shared with us. You have been a great father, father-in-law, grandfather and mentor and you are loved by many. Until we meet up again we will miss you terribly but, will remember all of the wonderful times we shared together.

Love Alice & George

My biggest memory that I have of going over to my Grandparent's house was that the both of them would be sitting at their dining room table, waiting for us to come through the door. There was always smiles, and laughter, and witty comments. I remember that nobody could beat Grandpa at Monopoly, that was his game. He would always get so engrossed in his stock markets, jigsaw puzzles, but also he would be engrossed into whoever was visiting him. He would always give you his complete undivided attention when you talked. There are so many things that I am going to miss now that my Grandpa is gone, but I have so many wonderful memories to hold onto. I can rejoice in knowing that he is in the presence of the Lord right now, and is no longer struggling here on earth. Opa, I will miss you terribly, but I know I will see you again, so until that time this is not "Goodbye," but "See you later."

With all my love, your Granddaughter,
Lauren

Craig and I always looked forward to visiting with Uncle George and Aunt Eva. They were always happy and funny. Uncle George was quiet but always had a smile on his face! Even though we couldn't be around him every day, we thought about him a lot and enjoyed him and Aunt Eva. God Bless him in heaven and God Bless you, his family.
Love all of you!

Dad I am so grateful that we all had the chance to be with you and at your side when you were ready to finally take the last breath and move on into the next and most important journey of your life...the Eternal one. You could have been taken from us very suddenly and been all alone but God spared you and gave you 4 extra days to be with us here on this earth. I had made you a promise to be with you when that would happen. I am so thankful for the chance God gave me and the rest of the family to have our final goodbyes and to get the chance to know from your own lips your personal faith and belief in Jesus and how you needed him in your own heart in order to spend eternity with Him. He took the penalty for your sins by dying on the cross and I needed to hear you personally confess this truth by your own lips. You did this and I had prayed for many many years for you and now have this assurance in my heart. You were an awesome provider and took your responsibility very seriously to be there for your family. Thank you for all your wisdom and guidance you provided over the many years. I know you are no longer struggling just to breath and now are in true freedom and peace. See you in the Sweet bye and bye Daddy.
Love your daughter Eva

I think perhaps the most memorable times of my father will be sitting around the kitchen table listening to him tell stories of his life’s experiences and solving the problems of this world. Although he was a quiet man of sorts he was never at a loss for words. Although I truly miss him it won’t be forever since I know his ultimate destination is the same place I’m heading in the eternal kingdom of God. Thank you Dad for always being there for me and the rest of us and thank you Almighty God for saving my Dads soul before he left this earth. In memory of Dad, Brian & Bunny Odaffer
