Herbert Alexander Francis, 93, of Palm Bay, Florida passed away with family by his side on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. Born in Colon, Panama, Herbert moved to New York in November 1954 where he began working in the garment industry dying fabrics. He worked as a system operator for Con Edison controlling all the steam in New York City before retiring and moving to Florida in 1993.
Herbert attended Palm Bay United Methodist for many years alongside his wife, Gloria. He enjoyed boxing and loved to watch boxing matches on television. He also enjoyed watching basketball and track and field. He was so proud to have been able to travel to Jerusalem, the trip meant so much to him. He loved to sing and many thought he sounded just like Nat King Cole. Family would often hear him whistling and singing as they gathered for parties.
Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria. They spent 44 wonderful years together. He was also preceded in death by four brothers: Lawrence, Cyril, Victor, and Osmond; three sisters: Doris, Ambrozine, and Mavis. He is survived by three children: Leo Francis (Morline), Floyd "Max" Francis (Anthea), and Alicia A. Francis (Devonnie); five grandchildren: Nicola, Stashanie, Noelle, Symonne, and Gabrielle; as well as two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to William Childs Hospice House for the wonderful care they gave to Mr. Francis.
Visitation will be held at Fountainhead Funeral Home on Monday, July 18, 2022 from 10-11AM with service immediately following. His final resting place will be with his wife at Fountainhead Memorial Park.
