Ian Samuel Hensel passed away on Sunday evening September 8th, 2013 at 11:24pm after 8 years of intermittently battling cancer. He was surrounded by his family at home as he took his last breath. Both parents, Kurt and Vanita, were by his side as he went painlessly. Ian was born on March 11th, 2000 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Ian was always loving, sweet, caring, and thoughtful, and was a wonderful son, brother, and friend to many. Since his diagnosis of cancer at 5 years of age, none of us can remember him complaining, voicing self-pity, or blaming God. His positive attitude reflected his complete surrender and dependence on his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is a perpetual inspiration for us to try to follow his lead as we each face our own challenges in life. He loved playing basketball and soccer, as well as building his elaborate “Minecraft” world on the computer, but he was passionate about building Legos, fishing, and his absolute favorite, snow skiing.
Ian’s viewing will be Friday, September 13th, from 5-8pm at Fountainhead Funeral Home on South Babcock Blvd in Palm Bay. The Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, September 14th, at 1pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church, with his burial immediately following. We hope to maintain a positive and uplifting tone to both services, so please feel free to reflect this in your attire.
Ian is survived by his parents, Kurt and Vanita, his older brothers, Kyle and Elias, his older sister, Lydia, and his younger brother, Tate.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Candlelighters of Brevard, 1875A South Patrick Drive, Indian Harbour Beach, FL 32937, (321) 728-5600. We are continually grateful to God for Ian’s life with us on this earth, but are most content that Ian is celebrating now in the presence of his awesome Creator!
