James “Jim” Bernard Kennedy, formerly of West Mifflin and the Hazelwood neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was sent into the arms of our Lord on March 13, 2022, at the age of 90. He called Palm Bay, Florida home since May of 2017. Jim bravely battled and survived many medical challenges over the years.
Born on January 6, 1932, Jim grew up during the Great Depression and World War II. He served his country proudly in the US Army during the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. Jim loved to regale family and friends with war stories and his memory of those times never failed him. A few years after returning home from Korea, he was driving past a movie theater box office when he caught sight of the gorgeous young woman named Lillian who would become his wife. It really was love at first sight. After their marriage, Jim supported his family by working at the US Post Office for 30 years, and he took on a second job as a school bus driver for 10 of those years. He retired in 1990. His fondness for dogs meant the family never went without a beloved pooch.
James was widowed from the love of his life, Lillian in December of 2001. He is survived by his son James J. Kennedy and his two daughters Victoria Croft (Gregg) and Colleen Ebbert (Thomas) as well as grandchildren Sean/Stephanie, Steven, David, Patrick/Krista, Matthew/Cassie, Kelly/Mark, Mary Anna/Matt, and Joseph, great grandson Zachary and his dogs Casey, Lilly, and Dutch. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Bridget in 2021, and his sisters Marie LeDonne and June “Buddy” Sioss, brother John “Jack” Kennedy and parents John Kennedy and Mary Kennedy.
Family and friends will honor Jim at a visitation to be held on Wednesday, March 16th from 5 – 7 pm, and a funeral service followed by a reception on Thursday, March 17th at 11 am, both at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock St SE, Palm Bay, FL.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.FountainheadFuneralHome.com for the KENNEDY family.
