This is a message to Dr Parla’s family. I don’t know what made me look up my wonderful professor from Fredonia but I did and I am so saddened by her passing. But also learning that I could have visited her while my family lived on secondment in Florida makes me regret not looking her up sooner. I could have taken her out to lunch. Dr Parla was an amazing inspiration to me and encouraged me to apply for scholarships that would have lasting impacts on my career in international business and Spanish culture and language. I landed those scholarships and academic experiences. These influences she had on me are still with me today. I met my husband in Spain and our eldest is studying international business and looking to study in Spain. I just wanted her children to know that professors like your mother are rare and I feel blessed that she was in my life even if for such a short period of my life. JoAnn’s caring smile warmed the hearts of her students and her colleagues.  When I began the Writers’ Den at Florida Tech, JoAnn was an enthusiastic supporter.  She dedicated an hour each week to tutoring for the new organization, encouraging her own students and others with her kind words.  Later I volunteered to help JoAnn with the placement tests for the incoming students.  This allowed me to see firsthand how she carefully scored the speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills of these students. Each student had individual attention.  JoAnn put in many hours assuring that the international students were placed in the right classes.  She spent many more hours in the classroom teaching these students the skills they would need to succeed.   Her support of the Writers' Den helped it become permanent.   JoAnn will be greatly missed by the students and the faculty at Florida Tech.

    With all my heart, my faith my friendship, my admiration and my respect I bless you! You were easy to like and it will be hard to forget all the good times that we had together.

I studied at FIT in 2019 and was fortunate enough to be a student of Dr. Palumbo. At that time, my English was a mess when I first came to the United States, but Dr. Palumbo always taught me patiently and talked to me. In addition to the exchanges in class, Dr. Palumbo often takes care of me after class, and invites me to dinner at major festivals. On my last Christmas Eve in Florida, in 2020, I was also fortunate to be invited. I visited you at home every month before I left Florida, and I always remember the smile you gave me every time I knocked on the door. I miss you so much, and I am very sorry that I have lost a lot of contact with you during my graduate studies. Before you passed away, my grandma passed away not long ago. At that time, I hoped that you would be healthy, but I didn't send you a text message. It didn't take long for me to receive this very sad news. I'm so sorry, I miss you so much. You are not only my professor, but more like my grandma. I will pass on the good qualities you taught me, I hope you can rest in peace.

Rest in peace, my dear friend.  Even after twenty years, we always managed to visit twice a year and have so much fun ~ New York, Florida and most recently Colorado. I’m sure that you are joyfully chatting up the angels, but I will miss your voice and your laughter. God speed, JoAnn. You are missed. My condolences to your beautiful family.  

I got a new number and wanted to let Dr. Palumbo know as soon as possible. Without responses for weeks until Saturday afternoon I received a text from Marisa I knew what I was worried about had happened. 
I went to Florida Tech in 2009 as an international student. Dr Palumbo was our essay teacher and the first person to make us feel included in the U.S. She would always hold Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at her Palm Bay home and made it home for all of us whose homes were away. It was sweet memories as warm as Florida weather. 
I went back to China to work after graduation without knowing when I might return. I texted goodbye to my “American Mother” in San Francisco Airport. A year later Dr. Palumbo was kindhearted enough to help me get a business Visa recommendation to start my business in Miami. I was glad that I invited her for dinner a lot of times when I was still in Florida. We talked a lot; she was our aid not only in study but also in life. 
This photo was taken the last time we met back in Christmas 2016. She visited Miami with her friend and I had dinner with them. She introduced me proudly to her friend as a successful businessman.
It is interesting how life could change vastly that I am not longer rich businessman these years. I moved to California and had to restruggle for direction. I kept in touch with Dr. Palumbo as frequently as twice per month. There was reason to concern because of her age, condition, and virus. Luckily she never got COVID; unfortunately we still lost her. 
She was a phenomenal lady of her family, an outstanding professor at school, a brave wife and a great mother. She had go through too much and I only wish her Rest In Peace. 
Let us learn to show love to our friend when she was alive not after she was deceased.
I love you and will always miss you, Dear Dr. Palumbo!

Joanne was my good frien d always go out for lunch and having fun at the casino cooking for her I will miss her very much I glad I seen her the day before  she was a good person  love you may you rest in peace

We share a granddaughter, Lily, with Joann.  We thank  Joann for raising such a lovely daughter who has made a family for our son.   And we thank her for her many years devoted  to education.  
She has been a blessing to many.

Through the years, I enjoyed her enthusiasm toward her students and education in general, JoAnn had a witty sense of humor, her students loved her, and she was a delight as a colleague.
