

John was predeceased by his loving wife of 73 years, Molly (LoSardo); his brother, William B. Auty; and sisters, Alice Perrino, Doris Critelli, and Cassie Bell Serrino. He is survived by his son, Jon J. Auty, and wife, Beverly, of North Haledon, NJ and Sarasota, FL; his daughters, Marilyn R. Annis, and husband, Peter, of Springfield, VT, and Joan D. Auty-Johnson of Rock Hill, NY; as well as 5 grandchildren, John C. Auty, Dann Vermilye, and Matthew, Mark, and Kendal Annis; and 4 great-grandchildren, Molly, Luke, Jon, and Charlotte.
John was born in Middletown, NY, one of five children to William B. and Cassie Bell Auty. After graduating from Middletown High School in June 1937, he worked for Rowley Coal and Lumber Company in Middletown for 40 years; he started as a clerk and became the managing Vice President.
He was active in the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, and was a Troop Leader for the Hudson Valley Boy Scouts of America.
John was a Veteran having served in WWII from 1941 to 1946 as a Lieutenant responsible for a Medical Corps in the Pacific Arena. He was escorted by his son, Jon, on the Honor Flight in October 2015.
John and Molly moved to Barefoot Bay, FL in 1983. He immediately involved himself in his new community serving on the home owners' board, driving the shuttle for the Veterans Administration, participating in his community's neighborhood watch program, volunteering for Bingo night at St. Luke's Church, as well as serving as the President of the Barefoot Bay Men's Golf League.
A Memorial Service will be held at Pelican Landing Assisted Living Facility in Sebastian, FL for the residents, as well as a Memorial Service in the spring at St. Joseph's Church in Middletown, NY where John will be laid to final rest with the love of his life, Molly.
