

Joseph Velez, 80, of Palm Bay, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday January 24, 2016. Joseph was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on July 2, 1935 to his parents Luciano Velez and Esmerita Ramirez Velez.
He led the East Tremont Softball League in the Bronx, New York, Youth Baseball Leagues in Queens, New York, and led the youth in the Bronx River Restoration Project. Joseph was formerly an umpire with various leagues, and a huge Mets fan.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lydia Velez; daughter Doreena Victoria of Palm Bay, Florida, son Kevin Velez (Karen) of Boca Raton, Florida, daughter Diana Rattal (Jim) of Palm Bay, Florida; grandchildren Jolene Victoria of Queens, New York, Nicholas DeJesus (Allison) of Palm Bay, Florida, Sarah DeJesus of Palm Bay, Florida, Cameron Velez of Boca Raton, Florida; great grandson Gabriel Joseph Howell; brother-in-law Roberto Sierra and sister-in-law Anna F. Alacan.
Calling hours are 4:00pm – 7:00pm, Thursday January 28, 2016 at Fountainhead Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will be held at 6:00pm Thursday. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, January 29, 2016 at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock Street SE Palm Bay, Florida 32909.
Interment will follow at Fountainhead Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Police Athletic League.
