Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, he was the son of Amado and Luz Vasquez. He graduated from Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) with a Bachelor in Education. While in the Dominican Republic, Miguel was employed as a teacher of general education. When he moved to the United States in 1969, he took up a few different jobs. His favorites were a taxicab driver in New York and a Longshoreman at the shipyard.
He enjoyed dancing; his favorite dances where Merengue and Son. He also enjoyed reading, especially poetry and literature books. Watching TV was another favorite pastime. People often called him a “couch potato” since he usually could be found lounging on the couch watching the news or baseball. Funny story: he actually wore a hole into a couch cushion before by sitting in the same spot over and over. Miguel was also a food junkie. He LOVED plantain chips with garlic, roasted pork, and chicken nuggets and fries.
Miguel will be remembered for his caring, kind, and loving personality. He will also be remembered for his stories and sense of humor. Anyone who knew him could attest that he was an excellent storyteller and a big jokester, a VERY funny guy.
Miguel is survived by his loving spouse, Paula; brother, Rafael; five children and three step-children; 40+ grandchildren which includes great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by both of his parents; his son, Nan; his twin sister, Miguelina; his sister, Juana; and his brother, Antonio.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, Florida 32909. Interment at Grant Street Cemetery will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to them to help cover the unexpected funeral expenses.
