September 28, 1940 – April 21, 2026
Mimose François Toussaint, also known as Manman, Manmie Mimose, Mime de Jo, Tante Mimose, Sr. Joël, Soeur Toussaint, Mimose, Miss Toussaint
Born in St-Marc, Haiti on September 28, 1940, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joël Luc Toussaint, her parents Joseph Belzince François and Piercille Lahens François. Mimose was a lifetime caretaker; a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and nurse. God had a different plan. On April 21, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones at home, Mimose François Toussaint transitioned to be with the Lord, our savior.
Mimose established a life in Haiti with her husband and 7 children in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Mimose and her family were members of the Église Baptiste Bellevue Salem, Delmas 24, community where she was known and embraced by many. For over 20 years, she worked as a childbirth educator and labor nurse at a non-governmental organization named Plan de Parrainage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She also provided care as a private nurse at Hopital Canapé Vert in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
In 1989, Mimose made a difficult decision to leave her family behind and migrated to the United States. She spent a brief time in Miami, Florida before relocating to Silver Spring, Maryland.
In the early 2000s, when she was in her sixties, she set a great example for her children by returning to nursing school. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and went on to work at Washington Center for Aging Services in Washington, D.C., where she cared for the elderly. At work, she was a motherly figure and a friend to many of her co-workers. She fed them, babysat their children free of charge, and helped in any way she could. She enjoyed working because she knew she was fulfilling her purpose in caring for others.
She was an active member of Église Baptiste du Calvaire in Maryland, where she participated in the church choir and various church activities. Around 2006, she became a member of Bethel World Outreach Church, where she prayed and fellowshipped with the women’s ministry. As an experienced elder, she often shared marital advice with the young couples in the church.
After moving to Florida, she attended Port-St-Lucie Gospel Assembly, pastored by her son-in-law, Theodate, where she was loved by many members of the church. She enjoyed praying and studying the Bible and encouraged family members and friends to spend time with the Lord.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, hosting family dinners, watching movies, and spending quality time with her family and friends. Known for her welcoming spirit, she made everyone feel at home. If you came to her home hungry, you could always count on a hot plate of food. Seeing the smiles on people’s faces after a meal she prepared brought her joy. Her door was always open to all.
Mimose is survived by her 7 children and their spouses: Karlie J. Desrivières and her husband, Pastor Theodate Desrivières, Hermione Parisien and her husband, Ludwig Tamyr Parisien, Kénelle Présumé Monahan and her husband, Michael P. Monahan, Hernandez V. Toussaint and his wife, Lynda Toussaint, Dr. Katia T. Coley and her husband, Dr. Nathaniel Coley, Hensie H. Lapierre and her husband, Dr. Roberson Lapierre, Kerby K. Toussaint and his wife, Dr. Solange Toussaint; her 15 grandchildren and spouse: Dr. Amrou Présumé, Kenlee Présumé, Theokarl B. Desrivières and his wife, Shawnni R. Desrivières, Sebastian L. Schelenz, Karitza B. Desrivières, Dhiandra H. Toussaint, Michael D. Lapierre, Leiyana L. Toussaint, Jonathan I. Coley, Christian L. Lapierre, David J. Coley, Alex B. Lapierre, Jeremiah J. Toussaint, Josiah E. Toussaint, and Lilliana R. Coley; her sisters: Marie Ange François and Gladys Severe; brothers and sisters in law; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and friends; and her adopted children: Mercidieu Bien-aimé and Pastor Dr. Frinel Joseph.
She was a caring, loving, and generous person with an infectious smile. She loved and cherished her husband and children. A proud mother of 7 biological children, she was also a mother to many. She taught her children and others the importance of education and encouraged them to maintain a relationship with the Lord and to spend time with each other.
We, the family, thank God for blessing us with such an amazing matriarch who has helped and touched many lives. We will continue to cherish her memories.
