Nancy was born in New Hope, AL, on November 18, 1932.
Following high school and further schooling, she worked as a stenographer at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. This was in the earliest days of the space program and she worked with its leadership, including Wernher Von Braun. More importantly, it’s where she met Ed Fannin, whom she soon married. Following the space program to Brevard, they moved to Florida in 1956, where their family soon grew from one to four.
Nancy was a faithful Christian, and was a member of Eau Gallie First Baptist Church for about 70 years. She was very active with the church, teaching children, serving on a number of different committees, and did all she could do to help the church. She was noted as one of the best cooks, not only at the church, but with her family and friends.
In addition to being an avid reader, crossword puzzle solver, and game player (especially with her grandchildren), she did her best to make others feel welcomed and cared for with her kind heart and friendly smile. She was also known for her great sense of humor. She even added to her fan club the caregivers who were with her at home while under hospice care.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Fannin, her parents, Charles and Ida Hornbuckle, her ten siblings, and two daughters-in-law. She is survived by her children, Ed (Lynne) Fannin, Steve Fannin, Ron Fannin, and Lisa Palanti, grandchildren, Wesley Fannin, Paige Moore, Veronica Fannin, Josephine Cherry, Ted Fannin, Mason Palanti, and Nolan Palanti, and her great granddaughter, Claire Fannin, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for Nancy at 11 AM, on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Eau Gallie First Baptist Church. All are invited to the reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Eau Gallie First Baptist Church.
