Sharon Quinlan Butts, a devoted wife, mother, and daughter, passed away on January 24, 2026, at the age of 79. Born March 28,1946, in Washington, District of Columbia, Sharon was the daughter of the late Edna Patterson and Frank Patterson. Her mother was part American Indian and a member of the Pamunkey Indian Reservation, a heritage Sharon carried with pride.
Sharon spent her early years living with her mother and her beloved grandparents, Mamie Susan Collins and Osco (Oscar) Collins, with whom she shared an especially close bond. Their love and guidance had a lasting impact on her life, and she often shared stories of the wonderful people they were.
Sharon graduated Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, DC, and went on to attend phlebotomy school. Her medical field career began working for Dr. William Luckett, where she gained valuable patient care and medical office management experience.
In April 1967, Sharon married Joseph Rose, and they welcomed their daughter, Tracy Ann Rose. Sharon continued to live and work in the Washington, DC area while raising Tracy Ann. Sharon later married Mike Quinlan, who adopted Tracy, and the family moved to Crofton, Maryland. While living there, Sharon worked for a physical therapy company. In her free time, she enjoyed camping, visiting amusement parks, and traveling. She especially loved cruising and time with family in Florida.
In the late 1980s, Sharon moved back to her childhood home to care for her mother. The family home was sold in the mid-1990s, and Sharon, Tracy, and Edna relocated to Springfield, Virginia. While in Springfield, Sharon worked for an NFL doctor and took great pride in managing the practice. She became an even bigger fan of her favorite team, the Washington Redskins, after being given tickets to attend football games.
In 2005, Sharon, Tracy, and Edna moved to Vero Beach, Florida, to be closer to family and enjoy a warmer climate. She worked for another physical therapy company and retired in 2009. After retiring, she cherished spending time with her mother and other loved ones.
Following the passing of her mother in 2011, Sharon found a treasured companion in her service dog, Pixie, whom she described as her most precious possession. Pixie was a constant source of comfort, companionship, and love. September 8, 2019, Sharon married Jeffrey Butts, sharing a loving and supportive partnership. They enjoyed spending time with Pixie, taking short trips, and dining out. Time together was filled with companionship, laughter, and the simple joys Sharon valued so deeply.
At the time of her passing, Sharon had just celebrated 45 years of sobriety, a remarkable milestone reflecting her strength, resilience, and commitment to living a full meaningful life.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Jeffrey Butts; her daughter Tracy Paul and spouse Melissa; and extended family and friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Frank Patterson, and her grandparents, Mamie Susan Collins and Osco Collins.
Sharon will be remembered for her devotion to family, her strong work ethic, her love of travel, football, animals, and the warmth and strength she brought to the lives of all who knew her.
A visitation will be held at Fountainhead Funeral Home, Royal Palm Chapel, in Palm Bay, Florida, Saturday, February 14, 2026, 3:30pm to 4:30pm and a Celebration of Life will follow at the same location beginning at 4:30pm.
