Tom, born and raised in Blackstone, MA, moved to Florida in 1974 where he met the love of his life, Diane, claiming Florida as his home. Tom was best known for his incredible sense of humor, maker of jokes, and his life-long dedication to the American Legion and SAL (Sons of American Legion). As a member of SAL Squadron 117, Palm Bay, his offices were as Sargent-At-Arms and Second-Vice Commander. But it was position as SAL Chair for the Special Olympics where he found his passion. Known as “Mr. Special Olympics” Tom chaired numerous fund-raising events for the Brevard County Chapter of Special Olympics raising thousands for the charity before being named Department Chair of Special Olympics where he continued his good work.
To his family, Tom, a.k.a “Unkie” or “Monkee” to those closest to him, was a life-long soulmate to his wife, a loving father and grandfather, a beloved brother-in-law and considered a second father to his many nieces and nephews. Tom was a man of strength, patience and unconditional love, but his way to fill a room with laughter will be remembered forever.
Surviving Tom are his wife of 47 years, Diane Wood, his daughter Tammy, son-in-law Scott, grandson Jacob, granddaughter Rylie, great-grandchild Asher, brothers Ellery and William “Billy” Wood, sisters Audrey Frechette and Tina Giguere, his sisters-in-law Wanda McDermon and Beth Cook, brother-in-laws Pete Tomlin and Al Tomlin, and many nieces and nephews.
