Donald L. Covey

Donald L. Covey, of Palm Harbor died in his home, February 3, 2013. Born In Oskaloosa, Iowa the son of H. Leland Covey and M. Edith McLandsborough. He attended Mahaska County and Oskaloosa public schools. Don joined the Army Air Force in September 1941 and was assigned to Airplane and Engine Mechanic’s school, in Biloxi. After graduation, he served at various Air Force bases in Florida, Texas, and Arizona. In 1943, he was assigned to the 80th Fighter Squadron and sent overseas to New Guinea, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. After his discharge from the Air Force, he earned his degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa. Don worked for the Defense Industry of Chamberlain Corporation and retired from his career as a supervisor of Quality Control, in Scranton. In 1994, he moved with his beloved wife to sunny Florida for the remainder of his life. He was an avid History buff and often could be found reading about ancient civilizations or studying Egyptian hieroglyphics. Some of his other favorite past times have been building and flying model airplanes, and spending time with his family.

Preceded in death by a son Donald L. Covey II. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Oma Covey. He is also survived by two sisters Beverly Burison and Dolores Dennis, two daughters, Michele Zagrapen and Michaela Coulbourn, two grandchildren, Heather Pendrak and Michael Coulbourn and five great grandchildren. Don lived a rich, full life and will be deeply missed.
