The only daughter born to Paul and Gertrude Meehan, Doris was born and raised in Brooklyn NY. She is survived by her four children, Dan, Kathy, Jim, and Rob; their spouses, children and grandchildren. Doris was a proud grandmother of 10 and great-grandmother of 10 more. She is also survived by her brother Donald, sister-in-law Marilyn, other extended family members, and countless friends.
Doris was a kind-hearted daughter and sister growing up in NYC during the Great Depression. She had her first job as a teenager, where she met her best friend to this day, Annie Fernandez while working at Mutual Life Insurance Co.
Doris met and married Frank Murphy in 1948. The young couple moved to Staten Island NY and began raising a family. While Frank served in the NYPD, Doris was a home maker.
In 1972 the family relocated to Clearwater, FL where Doris, Frank, and family spent another 19 joyous years watching their family grow, travelling in their RV, and enjoying cruises with friends. During this time Doris also worked part-time at AC Nielsen in Dunedin, FL.
After she lost Frank, '"the love of her life" in 1989, Doris continued providing comfort, joy, and friendship as a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister-in-law, Godmother, aunt, and friend to all she knew. She volunteered at Morton Plant hospital and enjoyed her friendships developed at her home at Coral Oaks.
We celebrate Doris' life and know she has found true peace and happiness with Frank and many other cherished family members who have preceded her in passing.
Perhaps her most endearing quality was Doris' seemingly uncanny ability to strike up friendships with just about anyone, anywhere, at any time. For instance, If you rode in an elevator with her, never having met previously, you were most likely friends by the time you got to the third floor. Doris met and touched the lives of many wonderful people along the way and we all mourn her passing.
She truly touched all of our lives, was a stranger to no one, and deeply loved by all of us. May she rest in peace.
