Christine Kay Van Gelder

Born Dec. 10, 1943 in Inglewood Calif., went to be with the lord June 29, 2023, in her home in Lancaster, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Doug Van Gelder. Christine graduated from Palmdale High School in 1961, and attended AVC. She worked secretarial jobs until she became a stay-at-home mother, raising her three children. She enjoyed bowling, was in a sorority, and active with her PHS reunion committee. She also served in her church at she welcome desk where she was known for her warm smile. The legacy that Christine leaves will be felt for generations; she was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her children: Dana Chewning (Virgil), Paul Van Gelder (Natalie), and Mark Van Gelder (Khanh); her grandchildren: Danielle Polaco (Joe), Kourtney Welker (Brandon), Dilyn Chewning, Christian Chewning, Lauryn Van Gelder, and Lindsey Van Gelder; and her great-grand-daughters: Raelyn and Londyn Streand. Chris was preceded in death by her sister Sheila Blecksmith. She leaves behind siblings Larry Word, Frank Word, and Colleen Dietzel. In August 2022 Chris married Gary Brock and he cared for her well as she battled pancreatic cancer. When she opened her eyes in heaven, she surely heard the words of Jesus. "Well done, good and faithful servant." She will be deeply missed.
