Born and raised in Lancaster, California, Dorene’s earliest memories included playing with her sister Jan in “The Boat,” eating leftover Carnation ice cream from her dad’s delivery truck, bunny hunting with Ranch Grandma, visiting with Town Grandma’s boarders, and giving her life to Jesus at a young age. She attended Lancaster Elementary School, Park View Junior High, and Antelope Valley High School. Dorene spent most of her career with Lancaster School District making sure students with special needs received the best services available.
Dorene loved spending time with family, playing spades, traveling to her son Shane’s races, worshiping alongside family in church, caring for animals, hosting people at her home (especially her Valentine’s dinners) and visiting with her friends lovingly called “The Birthday Group.” Her favorite years of retirement were spent being the best Grammy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Audrey Hamilton. She is survived by Patrick Dewing, her husband of 34 years, sister Jan Landers (Wayne), children Shane Lewis (Maggie), Nathan Armentrout (Christina, Lucille, Grace), Steve Stickler (Gunnar), and Kalie Dewing (Camryn, Trenton) as well as an abundance of family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all.
Think of me, think of me fondly, when we’ve said goodbye.
