
Timmer, Bernard J. 88, of Big Rapids, Michigan and Palmetto, Florida passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, Florida. He was born on November 26, 1927 in Muskegon, Michigan, the second of four children born to Bernard and Isabelle (Towne) Timmer. Bernard contracted sleeping sickness as a young child and was absent from school for an entire school year. He graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1947 and was a member of MHHS football team that achieved state champion status three years in a row, Bernard being on the team two of those three years. He was employed by the City of Grandville, Michigan at the time of his retirement and had previously worked for Harbor Steel in Muskegon, Michigan. Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Transue) Timmer in 1979; brother Douglas Timmer of Kalamazoo; brother and sister-in-law, James and Eloise Timmer of Kent City; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Robert Afton of Fruitport; sister-in-law, Donna Adams of Alexandria, Virginia; and brother-in-law, Perry Douglass of Big Rapids. He is survived by his wife, Joan; son John (Sherry) Timmer of Clarksville; step-son, David (Teresa) Vandenberg of Aurora, Colorado; sister-in-law Donna Timmer of Kalamazoo; sister-in-law Judith Transue of Clarksville; sister-in-law Jean (Robert) Snow of Sand Lake; sister-in-law Mary Anne Douglass of Big Rapids; sister-in-law Garnet (Jerry) Kaiser of White Coud; grandchildren Robert, Angela, and Darin Timmer; step-grandchildren Gary, Shelly and C.J. Strause and Lisa, Jill, Bethany and Emily Vandenberg; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday Jan 21, 2016 at 1:30pm located at the Palmview First Baptist Church, located at 415 49th St E, Palmetto, FL 34221 with Rev. Larry Pritchett officiating.
