Son of Birger Undseth and Aslaug Torgeirsen, Bjorn was born on July 14, 1932, in Bergen, Norway. He is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne Hagadorn Undseth, his daughters, Katie Buckley (Greg), and Tina Batten, his sons, Andy Lehner (Jill), and Birger Undseth, his grandchildren, Aubrey (Sarah), Neville, Gregory, Gwendolyn, Grace, Joey, Matthew, Megan and Jeremy, and his great-grandson, Arthur.
Bjorn grew up in the northern part of Norway. As a young adult, he traveled the world with the Norwegian military, spending time in Germany and Egypt. He learned to speak 6 languages, including English. In 1966, Bjorn moved to the United States with his first wife, Bertha, and his son, Birger. Bjorn worked as an engineer for Sun Ship and Stone & Webster for most of his career in the U.S.
On December 29, 1984, Bjorn married Suzanne Hagadorn, bringing lots of love to his new family, (including the furry members, his favorite was Mulligan). In the years that followed, he shared with us his unending kindness and warm sense of humor that made everyone feel welcome and as though they had a friend in Bjorn. If his sense of humor started to rule his wife, he would playfully remind her, “But Suzi, I’m so pleasant!” It’s true. He was.
His kindness and the love he felt for us was shown in the way he curled his wife’s hair when she broke her wrist and couldn’t do it herself. He’d hide the eggs for the Easter egg hunt, have a tea party with the granddaughters, carve a slingshot for his grandson, and tell us all stories of his childhood and his shenanigans at work, that were fantastic, outlandish and hilarious.
Bjorn loved designing houses. There were always hand-drawn blueprints of his latest ideas on the coffee table. Another favorite pastime was rearranging the landscape, moving trees and bushes around the property until the aesthetic was pleasing to him. His gardens always thrived. His hands were full of green thumbs.
Bjorn’s favorite color was red, maybe because of the colors on the Budweiser cans, maybe because his wife always told him he looked better in blue. (“But Suzi, I’m so pleasant!”)
He loved animals, birds, planes, ships, gardening and most of all, he loved his family. He was dedicated to us all. He was deeply beloved. We will miss him terribly. And that’s “no yoke!”.
