

Daniel L Redmond, Jr , 87 of West Chester Pa (formerly of Verona, NJ) passed away peacefully on Sunday September 1, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson’s. Dan was the oldest of 5 children born to the late Daniel L. Redmond & Mildred P. (nee Phelan) Redmond. Dan was a 1944 graduate of West Catholic HS for Boys where he received the highest scholastic average in the graduating class earning him a 4 year scholarship to Villanova University. He graduated from Villanova University in 1947 with a degree in General Science and then again in 1948 with a degree in Civil Engineering. After Villanova, Dan received his Masters in Civil Engineering from University of Pennsylvania in 1953. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in both New Jersey & Pennsylvania. At the age of 24 Dan started his own business; O’Brien & Redmond and was responsible for building 23 bridges along the New Jersey Turnpike & 20 bridges on the Garden State Parkway. While working for Public Construction, he was responsible for the Route 21 freeway & the Atlantic City Expressway. He spent many years with Conduit & Foundation where he was responsible for the initial site work for Epcot Center in Disneyland. After many years with Conduit & Foundation, Dan ended his career with Hatz Mountain Industries as a Senior VP of Engineering, responsible for most of the Secaucus real estate development with the title HarMon. He has received countless awards & recognition for his work, most notably the 1993 Bonhag award given by the Professional Engineers in Construction in New Jersey. Dan is a member of the Moles; the most prestigious Heavy Construction Group in the world. He was predeceased by 1 son: Thomas J. Redmond & 2 brothers: William & John (Jack) Redmond. Surviving are 2 children: Daniel L. Redmond, III & Elizabeth A (Lizanne) Redmond; 2 grandchildren: Victoria & Thomas Redmond; also surviving are 2 siblings: Virginia (Grover) & Robert. Relatives and friends may call on Thurs. Sept. 5 at Alleva Funeral Home, Inc.: 1724 E. Lancaster Ave., Paoli, PA. from 6-8PM and again on Fri. Sept. 7 at St. Monica’s Church: 35 Main Ave., Berwyn, PA from 1015-11AM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11AM.
