

Dorothy J. Liggett passed away on December 24, 2020 at Paoli Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was a resident of the Watermark at Bellingham in West Chester, Pennsylvania and previously resided in Wayne and Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. She was 90 years old. Known to her family and friends as Dorry, she was born on September 29, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the second of two children of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Liggett. Her beloved brother, Charles Liggett, was a Benedictine monk at Portsmouth Abbey in Rhode Island, and predeceased her. Dorry was a 1952 graduate of Wilson College with a major in Music, which remained a lifelong passion. Thereafter, she undertook graduate studies at the University of North Carolina, Dorry taught in Massachusetts and Hawaii before moving to Bryn Mawr to teach at the Baldwin School. In 1960, she joined the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus in Rosemont, where she remained for six years, teaching courses at both the School of the Holy Child and Rosemont College. Thereafter, Dorry taught at Marple Newton High School and for 19 years held various executive-level positions at the Colonial Penn Insurance Company in Philadelphia. After leaving Colonial Penn, Dorry spent many years working at Surrey Services in Devon where among her many other activities, she served as the Choir Master. Dorry was a voracious reader, a great conversationalist, an avid traveler, a gourmet cook, and a person of deep religious convictions. A Funeral Mass was held at Saints Simon and Jude in West Chester on December 31, 2020, officiated by Father Francis B. Danielski. Burial will be on January 6, 2021 at 11:00 am at Calvary Cemetery, 235 E. Matsonford Road, Conshohocken, PA. Donations in honor of Dorry may be made to Surrey Services in Devon at surreyservices.org.
