Elizabeth R. Higgins

Elizabeth “Betty” Ross Higgins, age 95 of Devon, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 13, 2021. Betty was born in Orange, NJ on November 15, 1925 to Dorothy (Ashley) and Ralph Hershel Ross.

Betty’s husband, Edward J. Higgins, preceded her in death, as well as her siblings, Mary Townley, Dotty Faber, and Jon Ross. She is survived by her elder sister, Helen Staley, her children, Lonnie Tait (Jeffrey), Becky Higgins (Joe Calicyo), Catherine Higgins, David Higgins (Jenny) and Digger Higgins (Vicki), and grandchildren, Chris Tait, J.L Calicyo, Jessica Tait Lykon, Colin Higgins, Charlotte Higgins, Carrie Higgins, Becca Higgins, Ross Higgins and one great-grandchild, Abby Calicyo.

Betty was a graduate of Lower Merion High School and attended Colorado College before marrying Ed and raising her children. Betty was an excellent seamstress, making clothes for herself and her children – including prom and wedding dresses. Because of a love of plants, she worked part-time at Waterloo Gardens then for Calico Corners and opened the Uncommon Loon gift shop. She was very involved in assisting in her high school reunions. Betty volunteered for 40 years at the Neighborhood League Shop in Wayne, which support the nurses of Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Betty loved her family and friends and relished gatherings of all. Her love of music was bestowed on all her children and through the years music was her constant companion.

Services will be held at Alleva’s Funeral Home, 1724 Lancaster Avenue, Paoli, PA on Saturday, May 29.

Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. Rev. Frank Allen will preside over a memorial service at 2:30 pm.
