She was a witness to a great deal of 20th century history: her early years of the Roaring Twenties, through the Great Depression and WWII. She had a great memory for details and one could ask her anything regarding those years and she would recall something about it. Show her an old photo of Cincinnati and she could provide a story for it.
While working to support the war effort, she met her future husband Joe. After his discharge in 1946, they married that same year in October. They bought her parent’s house in Mt. Lookout, Cinncinati, and sons Bill, Dave, Jay and Steve were born there. In 1956 Joe was transferred and they moved to Wayne PA. Raising 4 boys was quite the challenge but she rose to the occasion. Upon Joe’s retirement both of them enjoyed many trips around the country including a voyage to Alaska. A favorite was seeing the fall foliage in the New England area.
“Hortie”, as her friends called her, worked at the Suburban and Wayne Times for some 15 years in Classifieds. She was a member of St Isaac Jogues Parish and enjoyed her times with the “Jolly Jogues”. In 2015, she moved to Daylesford Crossing where she enjoyed her Bingo, Happy Hours and all the fun things of senior living.
Hortie was predeceased by her husband Joe in 2001 and is survived by 4 sons: Bill (Mary), Dave (Anna), Jay (Valerie), and Steve, 5 Grandchildren: Julie (Jason), Joe (Traci), Brian, Kellie, Meaghan (Marc) and 5 Great Grandchildren: Kirk, Domenic, Cara, Max and Maeve.
Relatives and friends are invited to Visitation at 9:15 am Saturday August 29 at St Isaac Jogues Church, 50 W. Walker Rd. Wayne, PA. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken PA.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Isaac Jogues Church.
