

She is survived by her son J. Michael Lawrie (Kimberley), her daughter Janet Hughes (David), her daughter Karen Vermillion (Eric), her stepson, Stephen Long (Debbie), her stepson, James Long (Denise), her five grandchildren, Jonathan Hughes, Julie Hughes, Jordan Lawrie (Emily), Brooke Mignon (Patrick), Sawyer Long (Brianna) and her great granddaughter, Lily Lawrie. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Daniel Stager (1999) and Gladys Boyer Stager (2005), her sister Jackie Stager Gessner (2006), her first husband John Randall Lawrie (1989) and her second husband Samuel Marsh Long (2017).
Jean was born on August 18, 1929, in Allentown, PA. She graduated from Allentown High School in 1947 and became an RN after completing her studies at Allentown Nursing School in 1950. In 1951, she married John Lawrie in Egner Memorial Chapel on the campus of Muhlenberg College. Over their 37 years of marriage, they moved several times and finally settled in Strafford, PA in 1964. That year, they joined St. Luke Lutheran Church where Jean was a member until her death. After being a widow for five years, she married Sam Long in 1994, and they moved to Hershey’s Mill in West Chester. Jean and Sam enjoyed 22 years of marriage. In 2016, she moved to Wellington Hall, a senior living facility.
Jean was an active member of her community. She participated in Girl Scouts as a troop leader and enjoyed bowling, bridge, gardening, Bible study, and entertaining friends and family. She was a longtime member of the caregiving committee and the altar guild at Saint Luke Lutheran Church. Her world traveling adventures took her to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, China, and Australia. She also loved vacationing by the beach in Treasure Island, Florida. She was a longtime member and former president of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization), Chapter AR and vice president of the Great Valley Women’s Club. More recently, she sang in the Wellington Chorus.
Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Spending time with her children and grandchildren was among her greatest joys. Her faith and church were very important to her. Jean was loving and generous woman who was gracious, kind, warm and welcoming to everyone. She leaves us with the gift of a lifetime of many happy and cherished memories.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Saint Luke Lutheran Church, 203 North Valley Forge Road, Devon, PA 19333 at 10:30 AM with a visitation hour beginning at 9:30 AM. Private interment is taking place on Friday, October 25 in Allentown, PA.
