Julia “Julie” Clymer Lloyd, aged 81, of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, passed away on November 1, 2024, at Paoli Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born on February 1, 1943, in Dundalk, Maryland, to Frederick H. Clymer Jr. and Dorthea (Kyra) Olson Clymer, Julie’s life was a tribute to the love, dedication, and adventurous, loving spirit she poured into her family and community.
Julie grew up in Bristol and Harwinton, Connecticut. She graduated from Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts, in 1961 and earned her degree in Primary Education from Wheelock College in Boston in 1965. Her passion for education continued throughout her career, inspiring young minds as a caring teacher at the SB Butler School in Mystic, CT, Wayne Presbyterian Nursery School, Rocking Horse Day Care, and Trinity Nursery School in Berwyn.
On July 1, 1967, Julie married the love of her life, Henry “Hank” Lloyd III, beginning a 57-year journey filled with love, partnership, and exploration. Together, they traveled the world, collecting memories in places near and far. One of their most cherished adventures was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with their entire family in Italy, where they shared their love of history and culture. Julie and Hank’s bond was the cornerstone of their family’s many shared adventures, both at home and abroad.
More than anything, Julie found her greatest pride and joy in her family, particularly her three “Lloyd Boys”: Matt and twins David and Fritz. She reveled in being a Scout Mom and was immensely proud of their shared accomplishment of earning the rank of Eagle Scout—a reflection of the values she instilled in them from an early age. From cheering her boys on at swim meets and football games, Julie was a dedicated mother and wife who created a home filled with love, laughter, and the spirit of exploration.
As her boys grew up, her warmth extended to her daughters-in-law, Stacey, Suzanne, and Missy, who became cherished members of her ever-growing circle of loved ones. Julie’s legacy continues through her five extraordinary grandchildren—Wilson, Georgia, Natalie, Mitchell, and Kylie—who were the light of her life. She loved being “Nana,” showering her grandchildren with affection, wisdom, and endless curiosity that inspired her to explore the wonders of the world—arms happily covered in mud up to her elbows and loving it.
Julie’s adventurous spirit led her far and wide, from clamming on Cape Cod to birdwatching in Africa and exploring Rome’s storied past. Yet she always found happiness in the small, everyday joys: baking cookies for neighborhood children, feeding the squirrels in her backyard, or tending to her garden. Her love and curiosity knew no bounds, and her home on Churchill Drive was a sanctuary filled with warmth, pets, and countless memories.
Julie’s heart for service shone brightly through her extensive community work. For over 20 years, she dedicated herself to volunteering at the Neighborhood League Shop of Wayne, PA, where she served on the board for many years, helping to uplift and support the local community. Her passion for history and discovery found a home with The Questers, where she was president, contributing her enthusiasm and knowledge to preserving the past. Since moving to Berwyn in 1982, Julie’s kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered, making her a cherished presence in the community.
Julie is survived by her devoted husband, Hank, and her brother, Frederick “Fritz” H. Clymer III of Winsted, CT. Her three sons, Matt (Stacey), Fritz (Suzanne), and David (Missy), along with her five beloved grandchildren, will continue to carry her spirit of adventure, service, and love.
A private burial will be followed by a Celebration of Life on November 23, 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Julie’s memory to Surrey Services, 60 Surrey Way, Devon, PA 19333.
Julie Lloyd’s life was a beautiful journey, marked by devotion to her family and a joyful embrace of life’s adventures. Her family invites all who knew her to gather, share stories, and honor the remarkable legacy of love she leaves behind.
